A home health agency representative, as you refer to yourself, comes into the building during regular office hours. Crimes are not usually committed during regular hours, as staff members - lame as they can be - are in the office. Check back around 10:00 pm and watch the activity from the front lobby of NB1. This is the mandatory cut-off for visitors, and anyone can see this is the time for illegal trafficking. DUH.
No offense to dog lovers, but the only thing that really bugs me here is that there are several tenants (in the loft building) that live here with their dogs.
The elevators sometimes stink of Fido as well as the hallways. I'm okay with cats in apt buildings and maybe a very small dog, but some residents here don't use any common sense by moving into a loft building (with all the units so close in proximity to each other) with really large dogs!! We have a few tenants that have doberman size dogs that live here!
Are you kidding me?? You would think the dog owner would use more common sense by renting a small house with a yard or at least an apt with a patio. Apartments are not designed for dogs, period!!
I am sure there are a lot of tenants who believe they need a larger dog for protection.
Pray that the budget passes; re-development funds to build places like Globe Mills...soon to be tenament buildings are no longer in the future. They have borrowed money cheaply, failed to provide protection for seniors, hide in their offices, plan more of the same with more low interest money, depreciate the buildings at an accerated rate and go on the next extortion scheme.
There have been plenty of vacancies in the loft building. I noticed on CL they are offering $400 and $800 rebates on a 6mo. or 1yr lease.
I did check out the Alexan today and was impressed. Plenty of amenities and two grocery stores within walking distance!! Plus, the neighborhood is much safer.
If I do stay at Globe when my lease is up I will ask for one of these rebates if I sign another lease.
If not, there are plenty of other properties that will take my money.
I hope management doesn't end up having what I've coined as "Dish Network Syndrome"; which is basically when a company rolls out the red carpet and breaks their back trying to acquire new customers by offering price cuts and incentives but doesn't lift a finger to help retain existing customers.

So whatever happened with that?
Was management ever responsive to your desire to stay?
I was thinking about checking out the place (despite all the negative things I heard) as my lease is up in April.
You are so right and thank you for trying to save some people who really do not want to live with drug addicts and mentally ill people as part of the deal for low income, senior housing.
Recently, we visited Globe Mills to see if it would be suitable for our aging aunt.
First security: the front door was opened for us, from someone inside the front door with no questions asked and we expected to be asked our business or see a security person, as we entered about 8:00 P.M. It was too easy to gain access, so you are right. ANYONE can access the senior building on 11th and C.
Second the tenants (?): We were going up to the 6th floor to see the view and on the way, some interesting characters came into the elevator. Both had kind of a blank stare and blurry eyes and were tettering a bit. We asked if they lived in the building and they nodded. Each had to be at least 60.
That was enough for us. In that neighborhood, anything can happen and we would not recommend it.
Very sad really. The building is beautiful and as long time Sacramento residents, we would love to be proud of this re-development but the building and the people inside do not match.
Are these the only people without money. Is the government actually funding drug addicts?
So whatever happened with that?

Nope.
As much as I *loved* the building I simply needed an apartment (where I didn't have to give up space) with more light. The onsite management knew about this for several months but appeared unreceptive to the idea. Since I never received any follow up from them, I had to be after them constantly, feeling like a pest, asking about units coming available all the time. After a while, it was obvious that she was extremely annoyed by me even asking. I once overheard her in the office discouraging the leasing agent from showing me any more units. I was really hurt and confused as to what her motives where.
Then I was told there would be an "apt transfer" fee of 250.00. I thought to myself, "Wow, you know, I'm a stable tenant that keeps to myself and pays my rent on time; why wouldn't they try to help me out and make an effort to retain me"? It's not like I'm some deadbeat. I would have gladly payed an extra two or three hundred dollars a month for another unit in the building. You would think management would want to minimize the revolving door of tenants that move in and out of the loft building but I guess not.
Even if they kept me 'in the loop' about units coming up, I would have totally stayed because at least I knew they were trying but I never even got that much consideration. Would it have really been that much effort on their part??
I work in an industry where follow up is **crucial** so when I encounter a lack of this from other people it's completely unacceptable and frustrating.
For a while I thought about writing a formal complaint to the owner but I think I came to the realization I just needed to move so I ended up putting in my notice. Fortunately, it's a renter's market out there with plenty of choices and great deals and i found something really nice -- with laundry and a dishwasher!
For the record, this is *my* opinion of my experience at Globe. Some people have no issue with management here; unfortunately, that wasn't the case for me.
Guess who gets to keep these little extra charges, like the illegally kept $50. carpet cleaning fee and your $250. moving fee?
This is third world country stuff..anything to survive poorly paid, overworked staff.
But those people are constantly in danger, too.
One person reported to me (in private) that one of Sacramento's biggest cocaine dealers showed up at G.M. office; someone trying to keep himself and his "people" in the building with a little cash on the side or drugs?
I do hope the mayor understands what he was promoting here, when he showed up at the grand opening party.
I am glad when any sane person gets away from that garbage can.
I can't believe the overwhelming amount of misconception and plain old falsehoods that are written (primarily by bliss61) on this thread. As a resident of the loft building, who's well acquainted with many of the senior residents, it's sad to see such a negative portrayal of such a wonderful community.
Firstly, you are unlikely to find a property manager as dedicated, compassionate, and vigilant as Sondra Bradley. Her tireless efforts should be applauded, not distorted by a plethora of falsehoods spewed out on this rather ridiculous thread.
Secondly, as someone who is not only a resident, but who has property management experience, I would like to add that it is not uncommon for management companies to charge fees for transferring residences. Standard wear and tear does not typically come out of a security deposit. $50 is minimal compared to Nielson properties, who charge for the amount of labor and hours spent on cleaning a unit. The company I used to work for would also charge tenant's for any holes on the wall incurred from hanging photographs or artwork. Globe only charges $50 out of the security for carpet cleaning, which is very reasonable in my opinion.
I know that the Bee also printed a retraction for their embarrassingly one-sided article months after the original story came out. Also, Management did not offer a rent credit to only favorable surveys but to any tenant that submitted one, regardless of their answers. The surveys were anonymous!
I suggest those that read the Bee article do a little research to verify the "facts" that were largely inaccurate. Also, the majority of this negative thread has little to do with Globe Mills and a lot to do with one woman with a personal vendetta against Management.
I love my apartment, it is a quiet, luxurious sanctuary that is very affordable compared to neighboring loft complexes in Midtown/Downtown. My neighbors are all quite lovely and respectful..including the sweet seniors!
Interesting.
I was speaking with a tenant several weeks back (when I still lived there) and was informed that they were going to charge her a 500.00 apt transfer fee, while for me it was only 250.00. Seems like this "fee" is an arbitrary amount depending on which way the wind blows. Also, this fee is *not* mentioned in the lease agreement anywhere.
I don't know, but my instincts were telling me something was rotten in the state of Denmark.
