The Sacramento Bee could easily do an expose.
Nope.
You'll never see an expose like this in The Bee or in the conservative local media out of fear of upsetting they're advertising interests. I'm sure there are plenty of stories like this that we are not informed of.
However, I can see the SN&R writing a piece.

globe mills
I live here at globe mills. Wow you do go to the extreme. Yes we have had our share of problems here with users and you of all people should know that since your boyfriend was arrested for having crack. I love it here with all we have. A very nice computer room, great gym, 2 patios, 3 big screen t.v.'s,bible classes, and a great new apartment! If you lived here you would know that! Please don't don't lump us all as being druggies or mentally ill. We have all sorts of great Seniors here that are making our home a better place to live. Please stay away from us Seniors and take your boyfriend away from us. You do not speak for us here.

What?
Who, of all the posters on this forum, are you accusing of having a boyfriend in Globe Mills who was arrrested for drugs? Surely, since I have been here, there has been more than one.
Do you work for the corporation? Who do you want to stay away from the seniors? The cops, the newspapers? Once I move out, I won't be back, so no worry about me.
There are more than a few problems. There have been people arrested for buying drugs and they are still living in the building. One happened about a month ago..a younger tenant...moved in unknown to management and when confronted, they said the way he could stay was to get a caregivers license to continue living there. No problem. About a month ago, he was arrested to trying to buy crack across the street.
So great to have all these ammenities. How about we get to vote: take out a few bar-b-ques, 1 or 2 excersize models and one computer and give us an armed security guard? Would you be willing to stand up for the women in this building who are too scared to complain for fear they will lose their home?

Confused
If I understand, there have been 2 tenants of Globe Mills arrested for buying/possessing crack cocaine? That is within what period of time? Looks like about one month?
Not having come from that world, we have to ask, is that considered acceptable in a senior housing project?

Globe Mills
I have read all of the postings of late regarding Globe Mills. I feel I need to respond with a voice of reason and honesty. To begin with, I am a current resident of Globe Mills. In fact, I'm one of the first residents! Yep, I'm one of those 350'ers that were mentioned.
Since I've been here the longest, I feel fairly qualified to speak about Globe Mills and all it's points....both good and bad. I watched with keen interest as the original mill bldg. was turned into what is now called the Lofts Bldg. It gave me a sense of pride to be able to say I was a part of the re-energizing of an area of Sacramento that has long been infested with blight and crime. And, The Lofts bldg. is, in fact, a wonderful example of what can be done to save historical bldgs. that would otherwise have been bulldozed and forgotten. If you ever have a chance, just go into the Leasing Office, and ask a member of the Staff to give you a tour of this bldg.....they will be happy to do so!
A little info on the demographics of Globe Mills. There are 3 buildings. The Lofts are a "market rate" one bedroom and studio apartments. The lower floor is comprised of actual "lofts" in the authentic sense of the word. The higher, 5th floor, offers commanding views of Downtown Sacramento, and the Sierras. All of these apartments have top-of-the-line ameneties: granite countertops, mahogany-finished cupboards, SS appliances, and dishwashers. These apts., however, are NOT "income based". The rents run from $925. a month to $1075. a month. And, they are not designated as "senior bldgs.". The majority of these tenants are "young, hip and employed". And, as such, they lend an atmosphere of youth and vitality to contrast that of aging seniors.
Now, on both sides of The Lofts are 2 bldgs., built and designed to house seniors "55 or older". There are a total of 72 one-bedroom apts. in each building. That's a total of 144 Senior Apts.! The rent on these apts. are "income-based". And, as such, may not have the fancy appointments of the lofts, but they're not "dumps" either. Granted, a dishwasher would be nice.....HINT HINT!! But, nice all the same.
So, the point I'm trying to get to is, there are close to 200 residents in the senior part of Globe Mills. And the majority of them are responsible, quiet, clean-living folks who just want to live in peace and harmonywith their neighbors. But, as with ANY new development, there are going to be problems. Call them "growing pains", if you will. And, to lump this entire development into one big "drug-addled, crime ridden" area is simply unfair!
Yes, we have problems! Yes, there are residents here who, for the most part, should have been evicted long-ago. And, yes, there are some who simply don't respect or appreciate the chance they have been given to elevate their lives. But, you're going to see that no matter WHERE you live!
As for me, I'm more concerned with my safety and well-being once I walk out the main front doors! This is a NEIGHBORHOOD issue! And it is something that we, as a group, need to address.
As to the tenant issues, I urge those with issues to voice them to management and owners. Not simply blog about it on the internet to give the appearance that this entire project is "riddled with crime and drugs" in order to warn future, responsible, seniors not to want to live here. Globe Mills has great potential! And, I, for one, am proud and happy to live here. I intend to "fight the good fight" to make our entire neighborhood a healthy and safe place to live!!
I encourage others to follow.

Got It
The selling and buying and using of crack cocaine and/or other illegal drugs should not be considered "growing pains" for Globe Mills.
If someone gets arrested for it, they won't lose your apartment if they did not commit the crime on the property. So they can walk down the street and buy dope and if they don't get caught, they can come back onto the property and create chaos in someone's life, if they are provoked under the influence.
To last poster, you and I are definately riding in different elevators, in more ways than one.
Is the violent brawling of several women in the hallways of MB1 and out onto the front sidewalk (on 2 separate ocassions) also a "growing pain"? Glad I missed being in their path..they were serious.
You can do something more important than corporate spinning. If there is a fire, You can prove your devotion, not just to the owners but to the tenants. So because you are hip and employed and probably strong, please go get the parapalegic and carry him out of the building because when that alarm went off and we were all outside, he wasn't there.
Anyone what to guess the terror he felt? Did he get left behind in the "growing pains"?
Why a fire drill, even if it isn't required? Because we, as better humans should do what we can to avoid suffering. I was in the office 10 months ago, when the fire captain was there. He said, "best to have a fire drill" because of the people in wheel chairs.
This should not be a new experiment with human beings. Everything at Globe Mills was handled "after the fact", in "reaction" to people's behavior. Almost no pro-active plans were in place to protect lives or evict criminals.
Maybe is was just taking too many people off the street at the same time or not screening properly or being understaffed or underfunded...whatever the problem. It still isn't fixed, after all these long months and some of us are waiting and watching for the major preventable crisis that is on the horizon.
Or maybe we will get lucky and the police will conduct a sting operation and it will hit the newspapers.
Or get an expose done (interview former staff personnel).

Globe Mills
You do have a lot of anger in you. I live here not work here. You have insulted and put down over 200 seniors living here. These folks are good people here, mind you, not all. I at least have lent my fellow Seniors a hand in time of need but I don't see you doing anything but complain and haress anyone here with a different account of what goes on. I now know I must have hit a nerve in my last Blog about your friend but you have done much worse in your language about the people here at Globe Mills. I do hope you find happiness at your new place, where ever that may be. I'm to old for all your negitive energy.

Mobility #1 Aging Problem
I have several concerns about Globe Mills - many of them already addressed. However, no one has mentioned bathrooms. There are 114 senior apartments and only 8 handicapped bathrooms (one apartment on each floor). The bathroom is the most dangerous room in a house/apartment. For seniors, falls account for more than 50% of hospitalizations. Mobility is the #1 aging issue. 93% of the Globe Mills apartments do NOT address the mobility issues of seniors. Canes, walkers and motorized carts abound in senior buildings -hip replacements, knee replacement, arthritis, osteoporosis, etc. For 38M one would think adaptive bathroom would be automatic. What were they thinking? Who allowed this to happen?

Thank You
For your expertise.
The bathroom floors are slippery and there is almost no venilation - just fans and the windows (when it is not too hot or cold to keep them open).
We are not allowed to open the front door for air because someone might sneek into our apartment and steal money, or worse. Everyone is taught to live behind the deadbolt and not even start friendly conversation in the hallways.
I have begun to smell mold that seems to be developing in the walls; maybe because of built up moisture.
It is only because of a little support that I have the courage to go on posting here. There is a woman - obviously a very sick addict - who has exposed her mentally ill neighbor to crack cocaine. Now he is very thin and confided in me how he is suffering, trying to stay away from it; he doesn't have the cognitive skills to process recovery information and she keeps showing up at his front door. I am sickened by this.
Two other men have been arrested, when they have gone out and bought drugs for her. Both other tenants of Globe Mills. So one very sick tenant has impacted the lives of three other people, in less than a year.
Yes, I am angry. We need to be angry about addicition. Always be angry; it is stealing our country's mental health and it doesn't help when corporations are as much in denial as the addict themselves.
My doctor has ordered me out of here. She says I cannot risk becoming disabled in this environment.

Globe
What is going on Bliss? This is not a nursing home with a lot of febble people living here. Get a life and stop your lies about my home and the people of Globe Mills! Bathrooms slippery, drug addicts? When you talk about this place it's nothing but negitive comments. No one is forcing you to live here, on the contrary you don't like it here then move out. We are trying to make this place better but with an attitude like yours nothing would get done. Did you attend the metting here at Globe? I guess not because you would have heard some good news. I suggest you talk to a P.O.P. officer and tell him what you have seen here. If you were sincere about this place and not so pissed off at everything you could do some good, but people like yourself only have one agenda and that is to scare people and spread your hate. I will be glad to see you move ASAP.
