rc251dc is on a distinguished road
I've lived in Davis (South Davis on Barony Place) and Midtown (17th & O) and I think Midtown is a little more interesting than Davis... I originally went to UCSB for undergrad (reputation party school), and Davis seems to attract a different kind of student and thus it's a fairly mellow town. The cops try to squash most of the fun that goes on there to keep the families happy and decent amount of students head back to the Bay Area or Sacramento on the weekends to quell their homesickness, making weekends pretty quiet. I think nightlife in downtown Davis is kind of a joke compared to the club & bar area of Midtown (Second Saturday almost reminded me of Isla Vista...) Midtown has a lot of young government workers and Sac State students.

Davis to me seemed a bit more sprawled out to me than midtown. I'd say Davis is more bikeable but midtown was more walkable. Maybe it was my location in South Davis, but I used my car their daily for errands, but was able to walk to almost any place in Midtown, and it just feels more dense. I didn't get the feeling that midtown is all that more white that Davis either. I think both have a lot to do in terms of regular activities throughout the week.

Davis is a decent school, the student body is a lot like Cal's. You can go downtown on a Friday night and there might not be anything going on if it is close enough to finals or midterms. Cops are vigilante because you get a lot of well heeled people who are employed by the university who like their neighborhoods peaceful. Mid town proper is more or less the Gay Lesbiang Bi meetscollege aged kids, yuppie, meets hipster, meets artsy meets bohemian. The outer neighborhoods that arent really midtown but people some times call it that anyways, have many vitorian, craftsman, and other classic homes. Great place to live.
