Default Relocation from Kansas City to Sacramento

Hello, my family is being relocated to CA and we are looking at living in Sacramento, based on my husband's job function and area of clients.

We have a very young child and are looking to rent a nice house, preferably with some kind of yard (2 small dogs) and maybe even a pool. Where are some nice, safe areas in which to live?

I've heard El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay and Folsom are nice, any tips on good, reliable sources for rental homes in those areas (even nice Townhomes)?

Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks.

CallieGirl103... I have limited experience with Sacramento, but from what I've seen Folsom and Granite Bay are very nice suburban communities. You may also want to take a look at Roseville and Rocklin to the north of the city. If you provide a price range you are looking for, that will help pare down the options. I'd be careful with El Dorado Hills as I've heard there are issues with asbestos naturally occuring in the ground there.

No matter where or what you rent, you need to be careful with private homes.

Many are in various stages of foreclosure out here. It is a fairly common situation to find that you are current on rent payments, but still given a notice of eviction. If the bank moves to take the home, the tenant can be tossed out with pretty short notice.

Just something to keep in mind if you rent a private home.

Thanks @ LaSam...

We are looking to rent since our move will be happening so quickly...and since I have moved to a new place before and did not get to fully investigated the area in which we lived and therefore, hated it.

Our range for rent would be up to $2500/month.

Good call....thanks for that advice. Our reasoning for renting, and renting a home, is that we own a home in KC that we plan to rent out, and we have 2 dogs that will require a yard/dog run, etc. Any other suggestions?

What is your housing budget? That would help a lot. Yes, those areas are very nice, also look at Carmichael and Fair oaks.

For 2500 you should be able to get something that would be very nice, including a pool. Don't worry too much about the foreclosure thing which was mentioned. Sure it could happen, but it isn't likely. I would recommend you go through a large real estate company. That is your best guarantee against any problems.\

Make sure the home you rent isn't going through foreclosure. Using a real estate agent to find a place may help, many are trying to rent places out for short term leases while their clients sort out what to do next.
