I've heard the title given to many cities but they always seem to lack an entire demographic group. Other cities claim it, but if you look at their zip codes, you'll find things to be very segregated.

But last night I was looking zip code by zip code for Sacramento. Nearly every zip code has sizeable % of white, black, latino, and asian mix. Granted a couple with stronger % of one group, but by and large, the majority of zip codes have sizeable of all 4 demographics. Impressive.

I wonder if it because the housing is one of the few affordable markets in California right now...so people of whatever ethnicity make the move and live in whatever neighborhood - as it also seems that the majority of neighborhoods are also affordable (with a few exceptions though).

It is simply the nature of sacramento. Government towns by and large tend to be more integrated than others. Look at DC. There was also a strong military presence in the city for quite some time. WW2 is really what prompted this once small farming capitol into a city. This helped add to the many different groups. the Pinoy, mexican, and chinese who used to do ag work traditionally, have established communities were newer waves of immigrant can come and make themselves at home.

In addition we have had a bay area exodus in which man middle class Blacks, Asians, and mexicans, and whites for affordable housing.

And for what ever reason, a sizable amount of Russians have settled out this way.
