Absolutely Santa Cruz... I lived there for 6 years and it is the most gay friendly city I've ever lived in... It may not be very racially diverse but as far as acceptance of lesbians it is great... If you decide on Santa Cruz you will have a great time... It's beautiful, the weather is great, and the people are nice... Good luck! Check out this website dedicated to Santa Cruz if you are interested...Bohova Travel

Me and my partner (and 3 children) live in Carmichael, which is a burb of Sac, and we love it here. It's not a gay mecca by any means, but we have fantastic neighbors and nobody has ever thought twice about our family. Good luck and welcome to CA!!!!

I echo the comment from someone else above regarding Tahoe Park. There is a large gay/lesbian demographic there and the homes are darling and still relatively affordable! Very family friendly also.
That, and midtown Sacramento is another place to consider. |

Midtown rocks! (and that's taking a lot for me to say since I'm an over-40 homo and not much rocks me anymore!)
I was there last week on a visit and fell in love with the neighborhood, the ambience and the surroundings. I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. |

Midtown is very popular. I don't think you will have a problem any where in the Sac and surrounding areas.

I agree that anywhere around Sacramento will be gay friendly or gay tolerant. My gay friends haven't mentioned any problems living in or around Sacramento. You might want to avoid the foothill communities, or be low-key. We had a gay couple (men) living in our neighborhood in Shingle Springs and the right-wing business community managed to force them into bankruptcy. It was very unfair, but the farther you get from Sacramento, the more conservative it gets.

Thanks! I'll be back in Sac the day after tomorrow, for an entire week. I'll be based once again in Midtown (which I've dubbed the "gayborhood").
