Hi All, I have an opportunity coming up to transfer from the Portland, OR area to the Sacramento area with my job. I wanted to find out some possible areas to live. I would be working at the Airport and would like to live in a community that is laid back, and close access to outdoor recreational activities such as cycling, mountain biking, hiking, and skiing. I would rather not have to commute a long distance in traffic. I am a white single mid-life male that is pretty diverse although not gay. Politically I am moderate. Is this possible in Sacramento or am I just dreaming? Any input would be outstanding. Thanks.

Natomas, Downtown or Midtown if you have $$$, East Sac if you have $$$$.

I don't know hiking but Skiing are 2 hours away unless you want to live in El Dorado Hills (thumbsdown)

Sacramento is in a valley, so there will be no skiing or mountain biking within walking distance, but the mountains are a two-hour drive. The airport is very physically isolated, so the closest neighborhoods would be in Natomas. Traffic from there to the airport isn't very bad, maybe a 15 minute drive at worst.

If you want to be closer to recreation, look for someplace closer to the river--South Natomas or Midtown/Downtown, which both have good access to the American River bike trail and parkway.

Majin, what's the beef with EDH? And really, if the OP is working at the airport... I certainly wouldn't suggest East Sac.

East Sac is next door to Mitdown and close to Business 80 and 50 depending on where you're at in East Sac. Whats the problem?

Yes, yes... seen the picture from you before. But honestly, you recommend Natomas and act like that's not one big strip mall surroundeded by cookie cutter houses? C'mon.
