I may be accepting a position at UCDMC and don't want a 30+ minute commute. I looked at Sacramento County, Placer County, and Yolo County. Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom and beyond would be too far of a commute from the Medical Center. I really liked Folsom, but I asked multiple local residents who commute and they stated 35-45 minutes minimum. So we'll scratch that for now. I didn't really see anything I liked in Carmichael, Citrus Heights, or Orangvale.
I know Sac. schools are not great. But if I can't find anything in Davis, and I needed to choose. What would be a "better area" Sacramento by the Medical Center (not Land Park, Fab 40's etc.. too $$$) or Woodland. What is the commute like from UCDMC to Carmichael, Citrus Heights, Orangvale, is it still 30+ mins, during rush hour? |

I am looking to buy. And, I'll be working in Sacramento at UC Davis Medical Center (which I think is near Cal State Sacramento).
So what is the commute from Citrus Heights/Carmichael to Davis Medical in Sacramento? Thank you for your help!!! |

Though I do not live there I am impressed with Arden Park. It is about one square mile in size, and has many very nice homes and streets.
The area is bounded by Fair Oaks Blvd on the south, Arden Way on the north, Watt Ave on the west and Eastern Ave on the east. It is a very nice area and homes seem to be priced in the $500 - $800 K range. Since the market is currently fairly soft in Sacramento, you may even be able to do better. It is located within the Arden Arcade area, here is a link to the description of the area if you are interested: http://www.city-data.com/city/Arden-...alifornia.html |

Either Davis or Woodland will still be a 30+ min commute. I did the reverse commute from downtown to UCD for years and even that was 25 min with zero traffic. Also, Davis is hella expensive if you want to buy.
The area around the UCDMC is getting much better and walking or riding your bike to work is great. Elmhurst, Tahoe Park and Midtown would be a nice super short commute and in some areas you can just hop the lightrail. I'd recommend renting in the area and trying on the neighborhood before purchasing anything. |

Hi kidpsych,
I work for UC Davis Medical Center and live in Citrus Heights. No matter where you end up living, your drive time will vary depending upon your work hours. For example, many of our employees who have hands-on patient care work a 12 hour shift (6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. with a 30 minute lunch). Because of their work hours, they miss most of the rush hour traffic, so commutes of a long duration are less of a concern for them. I work 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. I am always early for work. I leave Citrus Heights around 6:20 to 6:30 a.m. and my morning commute takes around 25 to 30 minutes. The afternoon commute always takes longer. I leave work at 4:30 p.m. and I am usually home by 5:15 p.m. Whenever there is an accident on the freeway, it always takes longer. Driving from Carmichael or Orangevale will likely take a little longer because those places are not as close to the freeway as Citrus Heights is. I've found that over the years, my commute time is getting longer. I hope this helps. ![]() |

Closest off freeway and out of 100 yr flood zones is North of Fair Oaks Avenue and East of Watt avenue.
Best of schools for grade, mid and high overlap in Arden Park between Watt, Eastern and between Fair Oaks Ave. and Arden Way |
