Where do people from Northern California tend to summer. People in New England and New York like to vacation in the Hamptons and Nantucket. Are there locations like this in Northern California?

Yes...we call it "Northern California."

I kid only a little, most of the state is potential vacation spot aside maybe from the farm country in Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys.

Hmmmm....we work for a living, we don't "summer." I guess you could say we "summer in place." So many good things up here, why leave???

Yeah, Tahoe is incredible. Nothing says summer like boating, playing beach volleyball, swimming, and having drinks by the lake. It's the best summer beach area in the state IMO, because the water is warmer than the Pacific anywhere in CA, it's freshwater, and the scenery is amazing.

A hundred years ago, people from SF summered inland to escape the cold and tend to their fruit orchards, and conversely, people from Fresno summered in Capitola to enjoy the beach and escape the heat before A/C. But now, I think most people hand around in the summer and enjoy what's in our backyards. Wine country, Carmel, Santa Cruz, theme parks, pools, tennis, golf, Sacramento River parks, etc. No need to leave.

I would say the #1 travel destination, however, is Hawaii. But I never see much point in leaving CA in the summer. I would go to Hawaii in the winter.
