East Salem, considering move...
I am planning to move - at least a three month trial- to either Portland or Salem , where my parents live. Can't stay with my folks because my dad has severe dementia, bummer because they live in west Salem. East I know is where all, or most of the crime there but probably the most affordable area of town for me, at least to start out with if I can find work. I would imagine there are some affordable rental places on Lancaster, or some of the streets adjacent to Lancaster? Ideally would like to find a duplex that would allow three cats. I'm sure at first though I would have to settle for a studio apt. until I get more settled.

Most of the crime in Salem is burglary type of stuff. The Jan Ree area which is north of Chemeketa is nice. There are tons of apartments right around the campus. Getting someone to rent to you with three cats will be hard though. You probably won't have a lot of choices.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, kind of figured that about small pets but if I can get a place with a small lease at least to start that would be great.
