Currently my daughter is living at Kaneko Commons Willamette University. She wants to move off campus to 14th st. and Ferry it is about 2 blocks from University. She has no car and will be walking, that is the issue I am having. Is it a good area? Crime? Safety? She has already found a place and is pushing for an answer. I am in Texas so she is on her own to find a place, it looks clean and cute, just need some information if it would be safe for her to walk back and forth to school. Really appreciate any help.

Thanks

While that neighborhood isn't upscale, It doesn't seem unsafe. Looking at crimereports.com, it looks like there has been a vehicle theft, a theft from vehicle, and there is a registered offender. Overall it looks pretty quiet. The offender is 64 and it doesn't look like he has done anything since 1998.

There are lots of other students in that area. It's really close to the school so walking shouldn't be a problem. I've lived close to there -- it isn't a horrible neighborhood. Mostly older homes remodeled into student apartments. I think there may be a few state-run group homes in the areas as well.

There are a lot of Willamette rentals in that neighborhood. It is part of the reason why it is a bit trashy. Students don't take care of lawns and such. I personally would be fine living in that neighborhood and wouldn't have issues with my daughter living there, but safety is subjective.
