my furnace died, i want to get two cadet wall heaters installed, does anyone know the approximate cost of installation and how to get a good installer to do the job? are the building codes too difficult for me to do it myself?

Cadet wall heaters require a dedicated circuit be put on at the panel. I would say they would cost about $500 each to have an electrician come and put in the breakers, and pull the wires through the walls for you. They generally install the heater as well, as that is easy once it is wired.

Why in the world would you go from a central heat source like a furnace to less efficient wall heaters?

Pretty simple way is to get a few Lasko oscillating tower space heaters, #5309/ $39.99, or other one you prefer.

Except that you can't sell a home with a loan that doesn't have a built-in heat source for each room. Plug in wall heaters don't count.

Your furnace is oil/gas/electric/hot water?
Your electric utility is Salem Electric or Portland General?
Get a energy survey. It's free.
Heat pump/mini split is the way-to-go.

You already have the duct system. It would be cheaper to buy a basic, no frills furnace than to put in a few dedicated 220 circuits. Adding new circuits into existing walls isn't cheap.
