I am visiting in a few weeks and would like to know where is the best and most affordable place to stay in Salem? I am on a graduate student budget (meaning, I have more school loans than the average undergrad) so please recommend places that are inexpensive?

Thanks
C

Hey there...

OK I don't know much about Salem... but I do know about saving money! And if you check out reserveamerica.com... you might be able to find a yurt or cabin to stay in for under $50 per night. For example:

Go to: Campgrounds and Camping Reservations - ReserveAmerica
In the drop down menu's... choose:
"I'm looking for: cabins or lodgings"
State: Oregon
Near: Salem
then put your dates in...

Yurts are awesome. We stay in them all the time. They have a door that locks, electrical outlet plugs, lights, beds, table, chairs, even a heater. The deluxe yurts are even cooler. All state parks have restrooms and hot showers...

I just did a quick search for you and found some cabins at Silver Falls for $35 a night. I haven't been there yet but I've heard it's beautiful. The campground is about 40 minutes from Salem. You might be able to find something closer if you look around I bet.

Hi H. Thanks for posting the above info. The price is fantastic, but I need a place closer to town as I will be out and about for most of the day. It's definately something I will keep in mind when I go camping.

I just remembered hostels... there is one in Eugene and one in Portland that I know about - I wonder if there are any in Salem?

Here's some:

Salem Oregon Bed and Breakfast

I really don't think there are yurts in Salem, and it may not even have a hostel.
