It is interesting, we all make minimum wage, we are all dying from the poison air or runoff from the copper mine, we are all shunned by the LDS who we live near, we are all stuck in traffic all day long, crime is everywhere, yet somehow people keep moving here.

We moved here about 3 months ago with only 1 visit. Have loved the area but finding affordable housing to our standards was difficult. I think finding the right neighborhood/area is key to liking it here.

If at all possible visit before making the move. I personally would never move anywhere without visiting first. But, location has a tremendous impact on my quality of life. For some reason I'm very particular aboit where I live. I lived in a couple places I hated so bad I had to leave and even left a good job over it once (Houston and Newark).

So save yourself some possible pain and make trip. And yeah jobs are tight, and for the same position you will likely be paid more elsewhere. Lots of educated and skilled people here vs. jobs available has traditionally kept kept pay low. Plus it's a right to work state that is very far right leaning so none of that help either. (Sorry for typos posting from phone is a pain!)

I believe you'll love Utah if you're looking for a great place for your family. I moved here from Gig Harbor, WA. I lived in Provo, UT with my wife and three children while I started a business and went to BYU and now I live in Springville, UT. I would be cautious about finding the right area and job before making an entire family move due to the stress it can put on the family. You'll want to land in the right place at the right time so the stresses the family will go through with the relocation will be minimized.

Well thank you for your input. I know things have been bad every where for the last 2 years. We had just heard and read that it didnt effect UT as much as CA. Im surprised to hear so many people make low wages. I guess my friend just got lucky when she moved there without so much as a visit and got a good paying job right off the bat (with no schooling and only a little experience). She is LDS so maybe that had something to do with it?? I will check it out before moving, if only for a weekend at least. I might wait until the economy is better too. I know UT has its down sides (like everywhere else does too) but the people I know who have moved there seem to really like it. We really like what we have seen and read about Sandy, UT. According to City Data's info people in Sandy make $80,000/year on average. This is more then where we live in CA. Do you think this info is incorrect?

It only takes a few doctors/lawyers to drive up the average.

I get a little bit of a chuckle at the $15 per hour and thinking that you could make it here-or anywhere in the US of A on that hourly rate. Belle is so right on the average comment-and I feel certain that the 80k comment must be a duel income too.
Valerie-things are more than likely better here than anywhere in California but be prepared to tough it out for awhile here too. I have a BS and an MS-and lots of other pieces of paper hanging on the wall- and am getting along on a seasonal job that gets me about 20 per hour and all the skiing I want-but I could not live here if the Mr did not have the "good" job....

Yep, when I drove by, I had to do a double take.

We were wondering when the one on 27th West/35 South would open.

Then the wife said, Geesj, I only made 2 dollars an hour more at Franklin Covey .....
