84112 IS the U of Utah zip code.

While unemployment is not high here - compared to California - you will not find high paying jobs.

DO NOT COME here without job offers or serious prospects.

The recession is not over.

I'll repeat MLB's post.... Do not come here without jobs. They are far between and plenty of people looking.

If you have a job then there is plenty to like and plenty to not like about living in the Salt Lake Valley. But it has been good for us while raising our family.

I am planning a trip to check things out. I think winter is the best time to come to see the area at its coldest, since I am from sunny Cali.

I have been researching as much as possible the areas I am interested in: Taylorsville, South Jordan, Sandy, Murray, Draper, Alpine, Cottonwood, and Holladay. I have been looking up info on city data and it contradicts some of the statistics on other websites I have looked at. I know these places are all fairly close together but I am trying to narrow it down to just 3 cities so its easier to look for apartments/work close by.

Can anyone tell me if there is any major differences between these cities that they know of? Anything that would make one stand out from another? Differences in nationality percentages or annual incomes? Anything that would make one place more favorable then another?

Most of UT is republican and conserative, is that correct? Things seem a bit more liberal the closer you get to SLC, is that correct?

Just trying to pick the city with the best job selection that is also very safe. And the more beautiful outdoor views the better. Thanks.

Forget Taylorsville, it has the rep of being more lower-income and crime-ridden.

Depends on *what part of Taylorsville*. I live in the part where there are 90% million dollar homes ...
(except our house, since we live in the home *that was there*, before they developed the area ....)
Not exactly low income, no ?

Not *crime ridden* either. If you do not live near me, you probably have no reason to even go through the area ....

In general, you can not lump a whole city into one classification. It is like saying Salt Lake is crime ridden. Which parts ??

I agree, there are some areas in Taylorsville, I do not go to *at all* !!!

Sorry Irman, just repeating what I had heard from people in the downtown/SugarHouse areas. Clearly mistaken!

I do not think you are clearly mistaken, because as I stated above, there are some areas, I would not even think to go to.

A similar statement can be made about West Valley City. Some areas really nice, some areas ..... Oh well ....

All in all, Utah is not a *half bad area* to live and work in.
Just choose prudently and you will be OK.

Crime in my specific area ... ?
I had to change my mailbox at least every other year ....
For some reason or another, kids (gotto be kids, no?) like to drive by at night and give it a whack with a baseball bat (I think ...)
I have the first mailbox on the street ..
My next door neighbour never gets his whacked ..
But then .. his neighbour ... At least I am not the only one ....
Today, safe for the last 3 years, because I painted it *flat black*...
uhmmm .... knock on wood ...???

Fill the mailbox with cement except for a hole for mail. A bad hitting cement would hurt! :-)
