I know I'm just about fighting a religion regarding those that think In N Out is so great, but quite frankly I didn't think their food was even exceptional. The shakes are pretty darn good ok I'll admit, and the fries are worthy, but the burgers are anything but special. They to me are overly salty and no significant flavor. I'd much prefer the char grilled Apollo/Crown variety. Sure however they are cheap, to me that is their calling card. But I'll make my prediction now. When Culver's get's well established in a few locations, they will be considerably MORE favored by the locals. They have so much more than just burgers to offer, and for that reason alone they have a few trump cards up their sleeve. not to mention their frozen custard is to die for.........literally......

I think you and others are looking at In N Out the wrong way, it is not a place with tons of choices in fancy burgers. They are simple quality made burgers with next to no variety, you get bun, meat, cheese, onions tomato, sauce and lettuce. No BBQ, butter buns, bacon, various cheeses etc.

If you are a mom going thru the drive thru it is an easy order for a car full of kids, "cheese or no cheese" that is about it. Slap some ketchup on it if you like and you are off. Quick, easy and cheap.

This brings up a point for me. I've only had frozen custards in Utah at Neilsens (Bountiful and Layton), and was very unimpressed. Are there other places (besides the future Culvers) to get good frozen custards?

dcisive, In-N-Out will make your burger your way if you ask. My SIL can't do the salt thing and he just asks them to cook one without salt.

With all the GREAT ice cream in Utah, why would you want the soft service you get at Culver's? Especially at their high prices.
