1) I would be working near the Airport, where would be a good place to live? I liked some homes in South Jordan. Would the commute be bad during the winter?

2) My son plays AAU Club Basketball, does anyone know of a good team for a 6th grader?

3) Schools- a good one is important, especially next year when he enters Jr. High. Must be good for education as well as basketball.

Any other items you want to include on the SLC area would be welcomed.

I just bought a home in South Jordan... it takes me 25 minutes to get to work right beside the airport leaving at 6:30 and 30 minutes go get home leaving at 4:30.

I know the Bingham high school in South Jordan is highly regarded for some sports though I can't speak specifically to basketball.

Schools are all about the same here, don't worry too much about which schools are better than which down here, it's sort of a dime a dozen.

There are a lot of nice areas closer to the the Airport. It really depends on what you are looking for. As for the schools try researching Salt Lake, Granite and Davis School Districts there are good and bad in all.

When you are looking for schools, ask for the actual teacher:student ratio, not the district average which uses counselors, aides, librarians and etc. to make it look like class sizes are smaller than they really are. Salt Lake school district is really small (in terms of population, not necessarily student:teacher ratio). Granite is huge. So, if you're a parent who likes to have some input on decision making, Salt Lake might be a good choice. Don't eliminate areas north of the airport in your home search. Centerville, Bountiful, Kaysville and Farmington have nice areas too and are just as close the airport. All of them are in Davis School District which is also small. Some people find those towns too politically conservative with not enough ethnic diversity. If that's something that matters to you, Salt Lake school district might be a better choice.

Like nemit said Bingham is probably the best in sports even in little leave football I hate Bingham though lol. They are mostly known for football I think they are top five in the nation. But it's more in west Jordan

AAU Utah - Basketball

This site has some contact info for AAU ball. Despite having 6 D-1 programs and both major and minor pro teams Utah is not a hot bed of home grown talent. Players do have good coaching though, and a lot of opportunity. I don't know about basketball but a lot of Utahs best athletes went to Highland which is in Sugarhouse.

I just wanted to change my post a bit....

Where in the SLC area would be nice to move to? I would be working near the airport. I don't mind driving a little.

What's important.....good schools...nice neighborhoods....and good Jr. High and High school Basketball.

Any help would be great.

What's also important is your price range.

We will probably rent 1st and then get to know the area's. I would be willing to spend up to 2,000 a month for a rental.
