Hi all,

We just moved to a house that has a 4x4 in-ground sandbox in the yard that we want to turn into a small tomato garden. Once we empty the sand, what mix of soils should I buy to put into it?

I've read some on Raised Bed gardens with an even mix of Peate, Compost, and Vermiculite. But since this is in-ground & won't drain as well as a raised bed (and those were in NC), I'm not sure if that would be good for this.

Any suggestions?

If you go to the Western Garden store next to Trolley Square, they have an expert who answers all kinds of quesitons. Not sure where you live, or if other WG locations have someone.

Also - consult with the Utah State Ag Dept. They have an excellent website:

Gardening Basics - Yard and Garden - extension.usu.edu

They also perform soils testing as well.

There are phone numbers on the website.

The Bountiful Dump sells it for $30 a truck load. Most gardeners in Davis County swear by it. Maybe there is some city-based agency closer to you that can help.
