A promotion is taking me from the bay area to Utah. My work will be about 95th south near I-15 in Sandy. We lived in SLC 7 years ago and are somewhat familiar with the area.

Considering Sandy or Draper or even northern Utah county to buy a home. I hear South Jordan, Riverton and Herriman are nice. I understand that with many the perception is that the east side is better than the west side (and that SJ, Riverton and Herriman aren't considered west side like West Valley, etc). Please feel free to share your opinions and/or set me straight...

We have three boys, 9, 6 and 3 and are looking forward to having more space than what we currently have in the pricey bay area. Fortunately, our home has appreciated nicely since we've lived here. Good schools are important.

Any ideas or opinions would be appreciated.

If I worked in the location you mentioned, I would probably check out houses in Riverton, SJ, Herriman, Draper and Sandy. None would be a terrible commute for you. Herriman is probably the cheapest, followed by Riverton, SJ, Sandy, and Draper in that order. All are safe communities. I don't know much about Northern Utah County commutes. Probably would be decent enough, but there would be some congestion for sure.
