So my DH interviewed for a job at Hill AFB. There is a good chance he will be offered the job. If he does, we will look to move closer to Hill AFB in the next year or so. Since I am a planner (yes, I am even planning for a hypothetical job offer), I want to investigate places to move should this all work out. He will commute for the first year or so while I look for a job closer to Ogden or in SLC.

What places should we consider. What would be important is:

1) as short a commute time as possible to both Hill AFB and/or Ogden/SLC
2) Nice neighborhood near good schools (our child is only 9 months old, but still if we stay, I want to make sure good schools are nearby)
3) Prefer to be in close walking or driving distance to restaurants or other downtown area.

Although I have been in UTah for 4 years, I really know nothing about neighborhoods outside of Logan/Cache Valley.

I did try to search, but did not find anything to answer this, so I apologize if this has been discussed - I am sure it has I just suck at the search function.

SLC is just too far in my opinion. The rules are basically the same though, closer to the mountains is a nicer neighborhood. Ogden is pretty inexpensive, and the big suburb with a lot of different options is Layton.

Like DelaneyRudd said, there are tons of great towns near Hills AFB, so looking any where but north Davis/South Weber county is probably counter productive. Although I am not sure what the planning job industry is like. I guess if you find a great job in Draper/Herriman then SLC would be great. Otherwise I would focus on Ogden, Clearfield, Syracuse, Layton etc.
