In answer to your question nothing goes on there that does not go on in any large international organization. People send and receive mail, answer and make phone calls, type letters, memos, answer and send emails complete payroll, do accounting stuff, hire and fire employees etc. I am not sure what you thought is going on, but hopefully that explains it a little better. Frankly I do not see what difference it makes how large the Church HQ is. There are over 11 million members world wide so it only stands to reason that you would need a large building in which to house the large number of employees needed to run an organization of this size. The Roman Catholic Church has 76 million members world wide. Their primary office space is the The Vatican. It is 108.7 square acres and has its own standing army separate from the Italian Army that only answers to the Pope. The Swiss Guard.
I think you will find that most large religious organizations find it necessary to have some sort of centralized office complex to maintain employees etc. especially Churchs of these sizes. I hope this answers your question.
Dude you are wrong. There are 1.1 BILLION Catholics in the world. The catholic church has 100 times more "members" than the LDS. It's not a competition and I don't want to argue, it's just a fact. You may be confused with the number of Catholics in the USA which is about 76 million. As you can see the Catholic church is quite larger. The Vatican, by the way, is an independent state, not part of Italy. I think the LDS needs large headquarters also because of the agressive efforts to expand that church worlwide.

Wow, if you move to Kaysville, I'm pretty sure that's the one that has Davis High School - one of the top ranked schools in the nation. Other ones in UT made the list as well. Best wishes for wherever you end up moving.
