Wink Apartment Recommendations. Please and Thank you!

Well we figured out the car issue. Do not drive during the winter =P

So I've been looking into Apartments on Craigslist and KLS.com and really have no clue what to go for. There are so many! Since I will be renting without seeing the location I figure I ask the nice locals for suggestions.

I am looking for:
1 bedroom 1 bath 500+sq feet
Something within 10 miles of SLC.
Updated appliances and counters.
Modern looking. (This is semi a vacation for me)
Covered parking/ Car port
Rent under 600. 500 would be ideal.

Bonuses if it includes utilities and internet so I don't have to worry about it.

Also do you guys have an income requirement? For example you need to make 2-3 times the rent in order to qualify to live there. CALI is very common for this type of restriction. So if I were to move in with savings I would need 600 x 3 x 12 month lease = 21600 in my bank. Crazy right?

I always thought it was first rent, deposit and maybe last months...

I am planning on driving in from SF Bay Area and arriving SAT 9/10

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate all the positive replies.

Give us a little more info please. On an extended vacation for the ski season, you wold want to be south of SLC proper and closer to the ski areas. If you are going to pickmup some part time work, you may want to be closer to that spot.
Keep in mind that Utah wages are kinda low and rents and other things are kinda high for the wages paid so bring a good chunk of change with you...

Sure. I am moving for 6 months to start. I will be looking for an admin/ office/ Hr/ book keeping job when I get there. The pay is at least 10 an hour from what I collected while researching. I would like to stay close to SLC. I am not interested in skiing. Even if I can not find a job within the first month or two I will consider it a nice vacation =)

I am moving purely on savings to start and have enough for a comfortable 6 month lease.

I contacted a few larger renting communities and they are asking 2 x rents and an income verification. Which is fine if they are willing to accept a prepaid 6 month lease. Do places accept that?

If not I would be willing to look into renting from a private owner.

I saw a few townhouses in a 4 plex and they were large 1/2 bed rooms for 500!

I don't know much about the renting situation so other than the old "ya don't wanna live in that neighborhood", I don't have much to offer.
If it were me, I would have the job in hand before I went through the hassle of moving. Jobs are still fairly scarce and lots of applicants to choose from too.
If you don't want to ski, why may I ask,cuz I am nosy that way, are you coming to Utah?

If the move is in 10 days I'm pretty sure the local job situation is the same as in a new town, not to mention a much more expensive old town.

I would recommend staying at an extended stay hotel for a week when you get here and scope it out.

This one is in a good location for this purpose:
Salt Lake City - Sugar House, Overview - Homestead Studio Suites

Just kinda felt like it lol. I coudlnt think of another place. I wanted something different and at a slower pace.

I am looking into apartments from private owners now. I swear these complexes are all the same! 3 x the rent for income! Any areas I should stay away from?

Wow, I missed the part that you were coming in September and my brain refuses to realize that august is coming to an end!
For now, I think that the extended stay is a good option too. Otherwise, stay east of I15 and north of 3900 S. I know that that is a wide swath but if you are in a hurry, which I assume you are, those are some of the basic parameters that you can use to rule things out...

Sounds like a good idea. I actually made some calls and if i prepay a lease there is no income restrictions so that is exactly what I will do. Now just to find a place that offers a 6 month lease.
