Default Commute Ogden to Clearfield / misc questions...

I think I found a place, I will be living near downtown Ogden and commuting to just south of the base in Clearfield. Any advice on whether to avoid the interstate? Of course, Mapquest is taking me down the interstate. I am not used to living in a city this big with this many people and would prefer not to be stuck in traffic for much longer than what this fifteen minute drive is supposed to take. It also is hard for me because I will be moving in from Florida on a Thursday and starting work on a Friday so I need to get advice virtually. Is there the possibility of taking public transport between those areas? And if anyone could tell me what the downtown area of Ogden is like, I would be greatly appreciative. (near the main library.) I'm mainly concerned with crime, cleanliness, noise, etc.

And two more mundane questions: if I want high speed internet, who should I go through and what are the prices like (don't need cable, just need internet)? And does Ogden have a good recycling program? Thanks y'all.

The commute isn't bad, I commute from Ogden (31st street) to the base. The problem is that current construction has things down to 2 lanes. Basically, in the morning you'll be fine taking 15 the whole way. In the afternoon, things always come to a standstill just before the 31st street exit. In the afternoons, take I15 up just past exit 338 (Roy) and get off at Riverdale. Riverdale will take you to Washington and 36th. There's lots of lights, but it still moves better than 15. Of course, they are SO CLOSE to finishing and opening up more than 2 lanes, but until this happens your afternoon will be a bit more challenging.

Area near the library is hit or miss. Some blocks are rivitalizing and they're fixing up the beautiful old victorian houses, and others are still kind of depressed, not much effort being put in. There are a lot of Hispanic neighborhoods, which we like about Ogden. We're a few blocks east of the library. Only problem we've had this summer was a neighbor's ride honking at 5:45 each morning. So we went over and asked them to stop (my wife had to do some translating into Spanish) and they were super friendly and had the guy stop.

Ogden has a lot of good things going on, Farmer's market downtown, Salomon center has a really cool bowling alley/flow-rider surf wave/IFLY indoor skydiving, and you'll love driving 20 minutes into the mountains. These should all help out any difficulties you'll find moving to a bigger, more diverse city.

Ogden does have a great recycling program. You get a big blue can for your recycles and a green one for trash. You don't need to sort it out either. We got internet through Quest, I think it's $36 a month and we have it without cable.

Good luck!! We moved here in June and love it.

Thank you for the info, that helped out alot. I have lived near large Hispanic populations before and speak pretty good Spanish, I have no problem with that at all. A larger Hispanic population usually means real Mexican food, which I love and the internet prices look to be about the same as here. Thanks again for all the great info!
