Default Utah is "Burger Crazy"

I just noted yet another national burger chain will be entering Utah. It's crazy. We have more burger joints then just about any other State it seems. I just want to say this. Finally had the opportunity to stop in at a "5 Guys Burgers and Fries" yesterday that opened recently near 126th and Bangerter just across the hwy from "In N Out" wouldn't ya know it. Tried that when it opened too.. My personal assessment and tastes are that Crown/Apollo have them ALL beat. Not only with a considerably more extensive menu but IMHO better tasting burgers. Not to mention for about 30% LESS in cost as well. I'm just NOT a fan of grill fried burgers. Not nearly as flavorful as a good chargrilled burger. As for fries the big thing now of course is frying in 100% peanut oil, and with THAT I would agree. But 5 Guys burgers are for one thing. GROSSLY overpriced. They should cost about HALF of what they ask for them, and believe me they are NO BIG DEAL. I already commented months ago how I felt that "In N Out" was also NO big deal, but at least less expensive. But in the end I'll take a Crownburger or Apolloburger ANYDAY over all the rest. I even prefer their fries. A bit crisp on the outside but tender on the inside with an excellent flavor. If I'm going to have a fried hamburger I'll go to Culver's thank you. Their fries rock as well. At least then I can get some frozen custard on the side

I went to Culver's for the first time a few weeks ago. We got kid's meals and I ordered a shake, nothing outrageous and it took a solid 20 minutes to get our food to us. The place was empty and they had to have had 10 different people on staff that we saw, all standing around wiping the counter repeatedly with that glazed look over their eyes.

The kids said the food was really good- my shake was so-so.

Have you tried Smashburger yet? Sweet potato fries or crispy green beans as a side and their shakes are fantastic.

We saw that The Training Table near the Hale Center Theater closed. Does anyone know--have they all closed down or just some locations? We're moving and it was one of those places we wanted to hit one more time before we leave the land of fry sauce.

I love Crownburger, but I still haven't tried Culver's since you first mentioned it. Part of the reason is that I'm kind of on a perpetual diet. I'll have to wait until I lose a couple more pounds and then go reward myself.

Crown Burger is pretty amazing. It's where we always take out-of-town guests.

When we move this summer, I think I will miss Crown Burger, Leatherby's and Pie Pizzeria the most.
I'd better add JCW's and Hires to that list too. As a shake lover, both of those places have the best raspberry shakes around, IMO.

For shakes I go to Iceberg frankly. They do a wonderful job. I get the vanilla shake with cherry and chocolate chips. It's superb. As for "quality" however surprisingly enough Chick Fil A has an amazing shake. You can tell it is the REAL thing. In N Out does a real rich shake as well. One of the most amazing burgers on the planet is the Crownburger with Pastrami and cheese. Even Shaun Hannity spoke of it on his radio program when he was on the air. I need to get down to "Captain Len's Barbecue" in Alpine. We spoke to him about a security system when they were building and he told me he won all of these awards beyond "Pats Barbecue" and was even better than "Wallaby's" in Lindon. So I've GOT to get down there to check it out. He smokes the meats all day long. Barbecue would be my other passion food so I need to check it out. I know all about " Goodwood" and yeah they are good but their environment is like a torture chamber for me (lots of screaming kids and banter). I do occasional takeout but that's all I can tolerate. I really prefer "Texas Roadhouse" for their steaks. I go early before the witching hour.

Yes Utahns are quite the burger and fries crowd; unfortunately! Fortunately there are some decent thai, indian, sushi, teppanyaki, and mexican restaraunts. Really the only burger i like here is from Red Robin (National Chain) the local places are a bit sad. The local version of a shake is basically soft serve in a cup it's a brick...

Nielsen's Frozen custard does kick some serious booty though :-)

Glad you mentioned Nielson's Frozen Custard. They ROCK on a level unknown anywhere in the country as far as I know. There are only 6 States I haven't been in and there's NO such thing as an equal to Nielson's. My cholesterol level skyrockets with each swallow, but it's worth it.
