Hello,

Anyone know if there is any LDS Ward events taking place between 7-2-12 and 7-5-12 in SLC? I'm taking a trip out that way and wanted to do something different as a trip idea and decide to mingle with the local Mormon population in their most familiar settings. I'm already doing the Temple Square thing, but I wanted to do something that would be more immersive in their culture, by attending something with them on these days and getting to know the people on a personal level. I enjoy religious and spiritual cultures. Thanks for any help! And, please, no asking "why you would want to do something boring like that!" or saying "those Mormons are crazy, don't waste your time!" Just answers, please.

Since the 4th of July holiday falls in that timeframe, you could probably find some ward that might be having an Independence Day activity. I really don't know how you'd go about finding out, though. If I hear anything about my ward having a party, I'll most definitely post something to that effect, and you would cordially be invited to attend as my guest. Now if you were coming on Pioneer Day (July 24), it would be an entirely different matter, as there will be a lot going on in the city then.

Meanwhile, when you visit Temple Square, don't just do a quick "walk through." Go on an actual tour of the grounds. Take time to visit both the North and South Visitors' Centers. Spend some time at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, the Conference Center, the Museum of Church History and Art, etc. I would be happy to send you a brochure outlining every one of the venus on Temple Square. If you can't find any ward activities, DM me and I'd be happy to meet you and show you around a bit (that way, you can say you've had some one-on-one interaction with a "real live Mormon" who didn't even try to convert you. )

Our neighborhood has a great little parade on the morning of the 4th. It is my favorite way to start the day. And it is a neighborhood parade, not a ward event even though it seems to be the ward members who do most of the participating...
I'd invite you to come join us, but I will be in Wisconsin that day watching fireworks over the Mississippi.
