Took a quick trip to Vegas in December...the inversion was so much worse in Utah County than SL county.
Found clear air after Cedar City but right back into dirty stuff outside of St George and all the way into Vegas.....
Damn the topography!

Are you saying that the inversion stretched all the way down to Vegas? That's impossible, I live in Vegas, we don't have any sort of inversion... Maybe there's temperature inversion in Cedar City, but no pollution as there's very few people, correct?

Utah at No. 6, (58%) - People moving out of the state. I wonder how many statistically are moving due to the inversions?

February is the end of the inversion. Longer daylight hours mean more mixing of the atmosphere which means "winter inversion" is over.....

Salt Lake/Davis's last air action day (a voluntary one for moderately bad air) was February 7. The last mandatory air action day (for BAD air) was January 29. January 30-February 6 were not air action days at all.

Another air action day is not impossible this season, but it is unlikely.

Default Herbert supports a stricter EPA rule!

The EPA is set to introduce sulfur restrictions on gasoline, with (very slightly) increased gas costs and presumably some cost to refiners. To my astonishment Gov. Herbert says he's in favor of it.

>> But since the presidential election, some Republicans have said they welcome the rule.
>>Gov. Gary R. Herbert of Utah, a conservative Republican, said that because of mountain
>>weather patterns, tailpipe smog is often trapped around Salt Lake City, giving his state
>>many days with “gunky air that rivals L.A.”

As an aside, the Utah coverage in the NYT is quite pointed and interesting. UT seems to their poster state (is there such thing?) for red state conservatism, perhaps cause it isn't in the south and therefore viewed as hopelessly regressive. They constantly cite UT when something progressive occurs there, cause that's news. This Sunday there was a long article on the impact of more women going on missions and the impact of LDS culture on professional women's career and social development.
