My boyfriend and I are moving to Salt Lake City next summer. He is a physician and is finishing his residency, I work in media-television. He's been out there a few times, I've been once last year. We want to live somewhere fun, urban, and ideally an area that won't judge us for being "normal" young adults. I don't believe all stereotypes, but, have heard stories of previous friends who have come for the outdoor adventure and left because of feeling very judged and unable to make friends. A few questions...where should we live? (reading tells me avenues and sugarhouse?) We've thoroughly researched, but no one would know the areas like an already resident! A brief rundown of the different areas would be great...any advice helps! What is the nightlife like, is there any? Music? Gyms? Thanks so much.

I moved from Laguna Beach to salt lake 6 months ago. I recently wrote a long narrative on how much I love Sugarhouse to the question "Portland or Salt Lake"? so I'll sum it up again. LOVE IT! Sugarhouse is hip and cool. Young families, cool coffee houses, tattoo shops ( and lots of other shopping)and virtually no crime. Downtown(8 min away)---Coming from California that's unheard of! anyway-it has some fun clubs and music LOTS of great restaurants . The mountains are breathtaking. I belong to a great gym, Xcel. All in all it's Wonderful!!! added years to my life!

You rock. We were just having a heated discussion on the "General Moving Issues" board about whether happy people were happy anywhere (and unhappy people were unhappy wherever they were) and you seem like a testimonial to the fact that location matters! [I doubt you were too unhappy before, just happier now, right?]
