Hello!

I lost my old username and moved from San Antonio back in September. So hi! I am looking for a place to do taxes. I am considering online with TurboTax. I had a friend back home who did them for free, so I'm not looking to spend a lot. We don't have anything complicated to file. I have also read that H&R is too expensive for me.

Thanks in advance!
Michael

What forms do you anticipate filing? If you're just filing a 1040 or even a 1040 with a Schedule A, I can attest that FreeTaxUSA.com is simple, free way to file your federal. I'm an accountant (not a tax accountant though) and me and all of my co-workers have been using FreeTaxUSA for years with no problems/errors/glitches. Nothing to download, no software to purchase. You can also use that website to file your State of Utah return, but there is a fee involved For my State of Utah tax return, I use Utah's Taxpayer Access Point which for me is also free. I've only used the State site for a few years. It's not as user friendly as the FreeTax one, but since it's free, I'm all for it!

I do my friend's tax returns for free using the above mentioned programs. They too have simple tax returns. I avoid paying ANYTHING AT ALL to file taxes.

Since you lived (assuming also earned income) in two states, that might require a little extra effort with the Utah State filing.

Maybe go check those websites out online before you go purchase software or pay someone to do your taxes. Could your friend back in SA talk you through it over the phone?
