From Portugal to Pleasant View
My time in the military (AF logistics officer) is coming to an end this upcoming summer, and my wife and I are strongly considering moving to Pleasant View to make our "new start." I've been to the Ogden area several times alone, and we both made a trip out there last summer. Naturally, we were very impressed with the fantastic scenery, friendly people, low cost of living, small-town feel, and space to breathe. The area's low cost of living doesn't hurt either!
Anyway, we currently live in Lisbon, Portugal, and the distance factor is making the scouting for this move very difficult. Because this will just be a military retirement (as opposed to a real, "quit working" kind of retirement), we both will need to find employment to make this all work the way we want it to.
With that in mind, does anyone have any thoughts or advice on the following questions?
-- My wife is a registered nurse (she has worked in the ER in past locations), and we visited two of the Ogden area hospitals last summer. Jobs seemed to be plentiful, although they are not very high paying in comparison to nursing jobs elsewhere. Are nursing jobs in Ogden still high-demand and low pay?
-- I have a military logistics background, and have done a great deal of foreign military sales in my AF career. I'm fairly aware of what Hill AFB has to offer, but I'm unsure about the surrounding military contractor community. Does anyone on this board have any in-depth information on this? If so, I'd really like to ask you some questions.
-- The new FrontRunner commuter rail system looks fantastic. If I were to use that as a way to commute to SLC (if necessary), could this commute be completed from Pleasant View in under an hour each way?
-- We're excited about the possiblity of building a new home. Does anyone have any first-hand knowledge about Destination Homes?
I've been a long-time lurker on this board, and I've already learned a great deal from all you good folks. Thanks for your help!
