My fiance and I are looking at places to move to in a year or so & since I have family in the SLC area, I thought it'd be a perfect place to move to. I looked at some of the real estate websites so I can get a feel for what we should look for and I found some places to consider, however, I have no idea where any of these places are. I visited SLC on a business trip last year & fell in love with the place immediately & would love to move there if we decide not to stay in MN. Here are the addresses that I found; I hope someone can help me decipher them.

5320 W 5240 S
4972 S 5415 W
4562 W 6200 S
5334 S 5495 W

Are you just looking for the city? If so, those would be located in Kearns. All the addresses in Salt Lake are based on the starting point of Temple. Thus, the first one would be located 53 blocks west and 52 blocks south of Temple (roughly) and so on.

OK, if you still can not figure it out.

Add the word *on* between the addresses

5320 W on 5240 S
4972 S on 5415 W
4562 W on 6200 S
5334 S
on 5495 W

Next, start with the last part.
You usually go to the street first and then find the house ...

5320 W on 5240 S
5240 south means it is about 52 blocks south of the Temple
Since the street is south of the temple, it therefore runs west to east.

Conversely:
4972 S on 5415 W
5415 west, means it is about 54 blocks west of the Temple.
Since the street is west of the Temple, it thus runs north to south.

Now lets find the first part.

5320 W on 5240 S
5320 W means it is about 53 blocks west of the Temple.

Conversely:
4972 S on 5415 W
4972 south, means it is about 49 blocks south of the Temple.

Hint:
Since the street number is larger than 5400 west, for instance 5415,
it is thus MORE west than 5400.

Since the house number is larger than 4900 south, for instance 4972,
it is thus more south than 4900.

If you can not figure out where you are, look at the mountains.
Big ones are east, small ones are west.
You should be able to figure out where north or south is ...

You could also use Google earth, and in the address bar enter:
--5320 W 5240 S, Salt Lake City, Utah ---

Amazingly it will show you exactly where that house is located.
When you do, note the large streets around that house and
figure out what we have tried to convey to you,
regarding east, west, north, south from the Temple.

I'll just do the first one for you so that you can get the idea...

There is a street running parallel to Temple Square (Temple Square being, of course, in downtown Salt Lake City). That street is 52.4 blocks south of Temple Square and is called 5240 South. (Don't you just love it? ) Since the street runs parallel to Temple Square and is south of it, it would have to be running east and west. (Don't stop in utter confusion yet; just think through the logic of what I'm saying.) The address you're looking for is 53.2 blocks west of Temple Square on the street 52.4 blocks south of Temple Square. You're just looking at a point on a grid, and those two points (5320 West and 5240 South) just tell you where the address falls on the grid.

I could be wrong here, but I'm thinking that would be the area called Kearns. If it is, I would suggest that you look elsewhere first. Kearns is definitely not among the more desirable parts of the Salt Lake Valley.

And really not to complicate things at all, but if you do plug those addresses into google you will notice that it gives you a street shown as "W 5420 South" Please just ignore that first 'W' as it refers to this street being on the west side, but you won't find any street sign that lists it that way.... just the maps and the gps systems that use them.

And yes, all those addresses are in the Kearns area. We lived in Kearns for awhile, as did some of our family (some still there), not too far from a couple of those houses. I'm sure things have changed somewhat, but it actually wasn't a bad place to live when we were there, we still have friends out there who seem to be happy with where they are. (though my east side preferences and biases won out and we moved).
