Hi,

I am Cuban and arrived to this great country (Legally) 8 years ago. I (still ) learned English, never got any welfare assistance and worked hard since the beginning. After a couple of years i joined the Army and I am currently stationed at Fort Benning, GA. I have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and next year my active service will end. I am married to a Cuban (bilingual) woman and thinking about start my family in Salt Lake City.
I would like your opinion. I will be an Army Veteran, White Hispanic, 33 years old, College educated, married guy trying to find a job (maybe pursue a masters degree) and to be a positive member of the society.

TIA, Raul:.

I say do it.

The Salt Lake area is a great place to work in the computer industry, and there are multiple local graduate school options available in the field, should you choose to go that route. SLC is also very inexpensive for the quality of life you can lead, and it has a thriving Spanish-speaking community (though it's primarily Mexican and not Cuban, which I realize may make the information pointless), if that matters to you.

Dude, you already are a positive member of society! Never having lived in SLC I can't help too much, other than to say from those I know, it tends to be a very accepting location and the only problem I have heard about tends to be religious; not as to where you were born, or your nationality.

I lived in Moab UT for six years and found that area very open to all.

Hopefully, others who live in SLC and have a similar experience will step in and help you out.

But if you ever expand your thoughts further north like into ID; I might be able to help.

Good luck either way....

Lurk on the net to find a job.
Newspapers and professional magazines.

After you do find work, go to school at night and learn all about *embedded systems*
And get your Masters in that field !
Almost everything around you that is commercially used,
and is plugged into some electrical source,
has an embedded system in it !

Today, Vets are usually highly regarded in Utah !!
