I read the articles, but haven't dared to look at the comments yet. Can anybody here with experience tell me if there is a huge Right Wing bias to the comments on the Tribune, as I fear there might be? Are the comments on the Tribune a reliable way to see how the people of Salt Lake feel about an issue? Or is it just more nutjobs yelling at each other online?

What is KSL?

And what do you mean when you say the Trib's comments are "liberal?"

Salt Lake Tribune readers have such a left-wing bias it's not even funny. Deseret News readers are the right-wing crowd. To read the letters to the editor in either one of these papers, you'd think there wasn't a moderate soul in the entire city.

And yet, Salt Lake City is one of the most moderate cities in a state that is so far right it makes Mississippi cry

Do you think this might be because each side gets THEIR OWN newspaper, instead of having to share one major newspaper

Comments sections for both papers are entertaining for sure. I have wasted more time than I care to admit reading and laughing.

Although the comments may be split right-wing / left-wing between the two newspapers, actual readership is most likely a Mormon / non-Mormon split.

I think newspaper is a bit of a stretch for either. I read the comments before the articles, especially on KSL when some illiterate has banged together a few sentences and called it good. Is this question for a school project?

I think there is actually some good discussion on the SL Tribune comment section. Probably 75% of the people on there are left of center and maybe 10% are left of Bernie Sanders, but there is enough diversity to create some really good political and religious discussion and posts don't get removed for being too blunt or to the point, which I really like, but if you don't like political or religious discussion I'd recommend staying away.

The KSL comments are garbage. I've been banned (for making fun of a BYU football player, seriously), so I created a new username and my comments get moderated into oblivion any time I say something too liberal. There is no discussion there, just a big echo chamber. I've never ventured over to the DesNews comment board, but I assume I'd be moderated into oblivion there too.
