Amid gravel mine's expansion plan, sparks fly over Draper's wind and dust concerns | The Salt Lake Tribune

Absolutely unbelievable that they believe they could actually get this rezoned. It is completely disgusting the cronyism that is made possible in Utah.

The fact that this is so much about the whole valley, not just a local issue, should be noted by anyone who sees what this area looks like when it is windy (hint, it is almost always windy). Why wasn't the meeting flagged by the media pre event? How convenient is that?

There's a lot of cement in all those buildings and roads along the Wasatch Front. It's gotta come from somewhere... why not the same place it's been coming from for years instead of destroying a virgin hillside somewhere else and trucking it all into town? So spoiled hoity-toity folks on the hill can feel fancier? They knew there was a gravel pit next door when they bought their property.

But it is not about the present scenario, it is about a local decision to change zoning from agricultural to manufacturing. Is that really a decision for a small city to make considering the bigger impact? Is there no environmental impact study required? Does manufacturing actually cover mining?

[i]Press Release
September 28, 2015
Geneva Rezone Public Hearing Scheduled in November
DRAPER, Utah. - Geneva Rock has filed an application with Draper City to rezone a portion of its property located at the Point of the Mountain from an A-5 (agricultural) zone to an M-2 (manufacturing) zone that would allow Geneva to expand its excavation on this property.
The application has been reviewed by the planning commission and is now ready for the city council to review. Shortly after the planning commission meeting, Draper City received requests from the public to hold an informal or town hall meeting to discuss this rezone. However, since an application had been filed, the next step is to schedule a public hearing so that all parties can be present at the meeting.

Considering the sweetheart deals and cronyism that have been pulled to get the prison moved out of its long-time home in Draper, so they can build more mcmansions, fast casual restaurants and call centers ... *cough* I mean "high tech industry" ... , I can't help but feel zero sympathy for the residents of Draper and their impending karma.

Really, Draper residents aren't the ones affected (other than maybe the flight park people) this stuff looks like ut blows away from Draper east side where the mcmansions are?. You might know better than many of us, how the valley geography wind patterns blow through the valley rather than back up the hillside? It seems to me like it blows across the I15.
