Thanks for all the info. We went there for Spring Break and had a chance to look around. We liked Cottonwood Heights. I think Holliday and Millcreek are close by. We also liked a neighborhood in Sandy, Pepperwood. However, I've read some things that don't sound too good. I wonder is this area heavily Morman? Are the people there kind of or a lot snobby. We would only be able to afford the low end of the neighborhood. Is it constantly trying to keep up with the neighbors. My kids are just plain kids, not sports stars or geniuses. They like to play outside and ride their bikes. Would Pepperwood be a bad fit for us? If anyone knows anything about Pepperwood or neighborhoods in the Cottonwood area I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Also remember that with Pepperwood you will have HOA fees. I have heard they are steep, but don't have an exact amount for you.

The rent depends heavily on where you want to live. Last I knew, minimum wage is the same as the Federal minimum which will go up to $6.55 (?) the end of July.

You can check out the classified section of ksl.com - Utah News, Sports, Weather and Classifieds. Click on housing and then rentals to get an idea of the average rents in different areas of town.

As far as your husband goes, I don't forseeing it being any sort of a problem at all!

The minimum wage goes to $7.25 on July 24th.

Melisac, perhaps you could share with us which city your husband's job will be in. That way we an attempt to help you with other information. How many bedrooms do you need in your apartment/house you will be renting?

We haven't lynched anyone because of their race in quite a while so he should be safe. Rent runs the gamut of prices depending on where you want to live and minimum wage is the same as the rest of the country.

Best to live reasonably close to job. We need to know where that will be, how long a commute can he tolerate, what is your rpice range, and how many bedrooms do you need. That way, we can give you very specific info. Welcome to UT!

Like any metropolitan area, each neighborhood has its pros and cons; each suburb has areas with better and worse schools, with better and worse views, with better and worse neighbors.

But the simple statistical fact is: the further from SLC proper, the higher percentage of LDS. This is neither pro nor con, as Mormons, like any other group, can be the best neighbors in the world or the worst neighbors in the world. So, the predominance of Mormons in a neighborhood really shouldn't be a deciding factor, but if you're intent on not being a religious minority in your neighborhood, stick with the Avenues, Federal Heights, Sugar House, Yalecrest, and possible East Millcreek/Olympus Cove. In particular, the Avenues, Federal Heights, and Yalecrest will have larger homes in your price range, and there are Protestant churches nearby.
