I just visited and seems like SLC is a thriving city with growth and more potential. Just curious why is that so, and why not the other mountain cities (aside from Denver/Phoenix). Thanks

Major companies like Adobe, and other IT firms moving in, also other global companies and not just to SLC, but Lehi etc
Low taxes and bringing its workforce with it. Cheaper cost of living and its becoming more diverse leading to many coming and not finding the LDS thing such an issue. Mountains, skiing and also very safe place to be. Also the employment laws are less protective of employees and big tax breaks for business. Cost of housing supposedly more affordable and also more direct flights to elsewhere in the world. Great climate & no major freak weather apparently. Great arts & music scene and alcohol laws getting a lot better. Lots of people coming here to live from out of state & out of the country.

I read an article during the summer that many large corporations from New York are opening offices in SLC because it is cheaper for those firms to employ people in Utah than in NYC. The employees earn much less in SLC but still earn well for Utah. Also, because CA is getting way too expensive, many people are heading to Utah. The appeal is also all of the outdoor activities one can do in Utah.

-Cheers.

Because it's a major mountain city. I know you said that most mountain cities aren't growing but that's pretty much untrue-basically every mountain city is growing, especially the major ones (SLC, Denver, Albuquerque-Phoenix is a desert city, not a mountain city). It gets the appeal of the outdoors and natural beauty mixed with the new-age urbanism and relative progressivism of the West.

I was gonna say the whole Intermountain West is booming, not just the Wasatch Front. We're not even at the top of the list.

Still haven't seen any stats but I suspect we really got a large influx of newcomers this year... I've griped about it before but it'sfeeling seriously crowded lately. Traffic has been the worst I've ever seen in UT, the commuter trains are packed, house (and rent) prices are skyrocketing and new houses are popping up like weeds... Around my house (Syracuse) we went from open fields to McMansions and townhouses in only 2 years.

Really the only only things working against new growth here are irrational fears of Mormons and very bad winter inversions... everything else makes the area very appealing for newcomers so I suspect growth rates will continue to surge upward for at least the next couple of years.

Jobs, relatively low cost of living, moderate climate, Jobs, low crime (relative), low traffic (relative), skiing.

Denver has been growing if you've been there recently as are many of the key cities in the mountain west.
