Commute from Syracuse to Salt Lake City
We're looking at moving next year and one of the places high on our list is the Syracuse area but since most of the jobs are in SLC I was wondering what the commute is like. The distance doesn't bother us as long as there isn't much traffic.

It all depends on the time of day that you'd be commuting. My dh commutes from Layton (right next to Syracuse) to SLC daily. He leaves our house at 7:00 am and usually arrives at work around 7:50-8:00. He leaves work at 4:30 and gets home around 5:15-5:30. If you could find a job that has earlier hours like 7-4 or similar, the commute will be quick and easy. If you have a 8-5 job, you will hate it because the traffic is so congested and slow.

That's what we were afraid of. Would the commute from Tooele/Stansbury Park be any better?

I live in Stansbury and depending on where in Salt Lake you would be working, the commute is about 35 minutes. It is about 15 minutes longer if you live in Tooele. It is a relatively stress free commute except for taking the exit back to Stansbury off of I-80 during evening rush hour. Usually it moves along pretty quickly, but sometimes it can get backed up. I love living here and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

That seems like a much better commute. Looks like I'll be checking into Stansbury next

With Legacy open the commute to Syracuse is easy relatively light on traffic and only about 45 min.

Not only do you car alternates like Legacy for I-15, you also have very good Express Bus service and the FrontRunner commuter train.
I think you will find Syracuse and Davis County are superior to Stansbury/Toole IMHO.

About Syracuse, there's a commuter train right around there - that's what I'd recommend - it's hassle free - no traffic - no worrying about winter conditions - no wrecks and backups - just bring a newspaper or book or something and enjoy the ride.
