Are they set into groups like as an example

Sandy(middle class family)
West Jordan (Wealthy type)

Like in every city it has its rich suburbs, middle class suburbs and its poor type family suburbs if you get what I mean?

I'm just starting to research into a potential move to SLC if I get my greencard next year. For some reason I have a good feeling about getting drawn, don't know why though.

These categories are generalizations. Of course, there will be pockets of other types of "classes" within these cities:

Sandy/Draper/South Jordan/Cottonwood Heights = Upper income
West Jordan/Murray/Parts of Midvale/Parts of West Valley = Middle income
West Valley/Midvale/Rose Park (Salt Lake) = Lower income

Hopefully other posters can chime in with the cities I have not listed?

Perfect, just what I was looking for.
Thanks for that.

The farther west you go in West Valley City the more expensive it is.

The homes there are newer and the neighborhoods nicer.

The first answer to the question is pretty accurate. But you should be careful no matter where you look. Even in Sandy, there are a few areas that aren't that nice. Parts of West Valley, Magna, Kearns, Rose Park and Glendale are the poorest.

In general, the old money is on the east side, the new money is on the south and southwest side, and the west and northwest are lower income.

Default Shopping in West Valley

I lived in Magna for 5 years (near the nicer West Valley homes). My main problem was the lack of shopping - I ended up going to West Jordan for anything that wasn't at Wal-Mart or Kohl's.

What about Millcreek and East Millcreek? Which is better for a 13 year old boy and his parents? Thanks!

If you can afford it, go ahead. Since it's more expensive, you won't find many young families living there, so expect a higher percentage of retired people. There will be younger families, but it's not kind of place where you see 10+ neighborhood kids playing in the street.

These classifications are really hard to do accurately because each suburb has a HUGE socio-economic span. Murray is a great example. Sure it's middle class, but there are parts of Murray that are VERY nice and VERY expensive, and certainly not middle class.

So, if you are trying to classify these suburbs with a two word tag, good luck.

Parts of South Jorday, Riverton and Herriman are the newest and least likely crime ridden of those mentioned. If you can afford to live in the East portion of Draper, Sandy or Cottonwood Heights you'll have it made (but bring a BIG check book).
