Default a move: slc?

i am a recent college graduate. considering a job offer in slc. though the job isn't really something i'd like to pursue, i have decided to take a year between grad school to explore. i am quite concerned, however, about the potential move to utah. i've lived: florida, ohio, missouri, colorado, south africa, and new york. but. salt lake city is scary to me. i understand its beauty. but is it a place for a 22 year-old ultra-liberal atheist? i like to drink, go to music shows; i like an urban setting, parks, art museums; i can't ski or snowboard but i do enjoy the outdoors. i wonder if salt lake city is place i can settle- if even for a year.
is the setting conducive to a young lifestyle?

The University of Utah has many people from everywhere. If you live in a neighbor close them, you could probably find friends and be comfortable. There are many outdoorsy things to do even if you don't ski. Also there are dance(Ballet West, Ririe Woodbury) and theatre(Capitol Theatre) companies that do shows.

We have a very good symphony, near the top of the 2nd tier group. They do a year-around program, summer in PArk City and witners downtown. Also, a chamber group or two.
