surviving without a car
I am sure the use of the Trax depends on where exactly one lives in SLC. I am planning on living near the intersection of East South Temple and Virginia, which is where East South Temple ends before it runs into the University. Does anyone know what the closest Trax station is? I have searched for maps that have both street names with Trax stations, but it seems all maps only have one or the other. Frustrating!
Assuming I am living near this intersection, is relying on the Trax, buses, and a bike reasonable? I will only be commuting to the downtown area for work. I have been out of the country for 3 years and lived in a city where one doesn't need a car; I don't want to go back to driving if I can avoid it, though I might get a motorcycle next spring I just want to get through my first few months without having to worry about the stress of driving, car insurance, renewing my license, and GAS!
Thanks

There are TRAX stations every other block, or so it seems to me as. I really don't think you'll have a problem - and I have never ridden a bike to work, or walked, or taken TRAX to anything but the Symphony. I am wedded to my car! But I see a LOT of people walking/biking in SLC and many ot them do so to work.

There is a trax station at the university near the stadium which is fairly close, and any others running down 5th, then 4th south, 4 or 5 blocks to the south of you. What you want to do is feasible, I did it myself in the 70's even before trax when I lived in that area. Used a bicycle. I envy your freedom to do this.

Thanks, that was just the kind of response I was looking for. I found an address for that station, and it definately looks like I can do it. I will be under a mile from the university stadium. The winters probably won't work for a bike, but I think I can walk that distance without a problem. I am quite happy about my freedom to do it. I don't know what is worse: getting so used to a car that you can't give it up, or living without one for so long that you don't want to ever own one again. I am in the second category, and from where I sit, SLC is looking like an ok place to be .

SLC has the best public transportation system of any city I've lived in (USA). Buisses connect to TRAX to FrontRunner.
