I am a single female who is relocating to SLC. I'd like to live in the city, but don't necessarily need to live in The Avenues or Sugarhouse (my budget couldn't afford it anyway
). Can someone tell me whether the neighborhoods around Liberty Park (zip codes 84102, 105, 111) are safe enough for a single woman? I've lived in several metropolitan cities, and compared to those, most areas of SLC seemed pretty safe [looking]. While I'd love to be within bike-riding distance of The U, I would consider areas further South (between Sugarhouse and Midvale). Thanks in advance for any suggestions/experiences. |

I don't know by zip code how those stack up. Liberty Park has a reputation of being where drug addicts sometimes go. But I just got done trying to debunk the myths of other places, so maybe take my impression with a grain of salt
![]() I drive by there a lot and see women jogging alone there during the day. Don't know about how it is at night. To go up to the U, you would be riding your bike up a pretty steep hill also from there. |

I have a few friends that live around liberty park and it is a safe place, not sure about the exact zip code, but The 9th and 9th area, near liberty park is very nice, as well as 11th and 11th both within biking distance to the U and frequent buses that go to the U. These areas also have some very nice shops and restaurants that attract a lot of people so it is very walkable, even at night.

Thank you coolcats and tbermudez! I saw 9th and 9th and 11th and 11th areas during a recent visit. A few of the houses that are in my price-range are a couple of blocks West of Liberty Park. Someone told me that 500 E is a busy street and areas West of it (zip code 84111) are a bit dicey.
Next visit I'll have to pay closer attention ... Thanks again! |

When my wife and I were first married we live downtown near the capitol and conference center 2nd north and Main. There are tons of condos down there for rent that are reasonable. Buses are all over the place along with Trax to the U. I attended the U for both of my degrees and lived near 100 South and 1100 East for years. You could ride your bike or take the bus for free as a U student.
