I went through the same thing when I moved there from CA, but once you get it down, you can be lost and find your way because of those numbers. The problem is, the numbering starts over in each city, so If you don't know when you leave one city and are in the next it can be a bit confusing. Like one time I thought I was in Kaysville at the right address when I was really in Layton. It would be a ton easier if the cities were spaced out a little more. I never understood why 33rd south was called 3300 either, or 1st south is really 100 S etc etc. The mountains help out because I knew they were always east. Now I am back to a state where when you give directions.... go two stoplights north then take a right at the Sonic, go three more lights take a left at the Mcdonalds and on and on. Actually I just use my GPS since no moutains here and I have no clue what direction I am going.

What confuses some folks is the difference between "3rd" and "3rd Avenue." 3rd is 300 S or 300 E or 300 W, or 300 N but 3rd Avenue is only 3rd Avenue, above the city in the Avenues section.

Jus' MHO, but I think the numbered streets from a central spot make a lot of sense. I always tell visitors that you'd have to be truly stupid to get lost here as long as you stick to the grid. There are some streets that curve and don't really fit the grid, and as others have said, when you change city limits it can be confusing. But if it's confusing, you changed cities! LOL

I guess back inthe day when the streets were laid out it was easier as there weren't as many cities, but we aren't back in the pioneer days. I do like the fact that the streets are very wide in Salt Lake.

Sometimes that is easier.........go to fire hyrant and take a right, then 1 mile to the fork in the road...ha ha

Supposedly on some signs it has the name of the city on the street sign. I noticed that in Woods Cross and Centerville.
You are in for a culture shock. Bars aren't the only thing around here with (to you) strange hours. Many restaurants, other than chains, are closed on Sundays, as are many other types of stores. I am used to the bare-flesh-hanging-out look of New Orleans but I rarely see that here (and TG as much of that flesh was not something I wanted to see). I haven't seen a muscle shirt in a long time (not talking parks here, just stores, on the streets, etc). Daisey dukes are not popular. Women don't wear tons of make-up nor tons of jewelry. This is the most red state of the red states!
It is the most REPUBLICAN state in the union by voting records. However, it the LDS church that has alot of influence in Utah.

Well I know, the traffic is odd around here. We drove to Vegas and as conjested as that city is, its more understandable than here. All I know is what exit u take off of 15 to get to my house and the mall..lol...and I used to drive in Baltimore and DC and people say that area is confusing because of one way streets..

To answer the OP's question, all bars have last call at 1am at the latest and most will let you stay until 2am to finish your drinks.

Also, the silly "membership" thing seems to be on its way out so just put up with it for a few more months.

Just to put in my two cents, you do have to get a membership at each private club you go to, bars really do close at 1am, they will turn up the lights at 1259, encourage you to make the way to the door and you will pay a premium for 3.2 drinks. If you happen to be at a club, you can get higher strength drinks, for even more $$.
