Default BF just started work in Magna. Looking to move to nice area around there. Anybody know of anything?

My guy just started work in Magna. I'm living in Vegas at my Dad's with our 1 year old. We're trying to pay off some of our debt first, but then me and the baby will be moving up there. I've been doing some research on here and it seems a lot of back and forth about good areas and bad areas/gang related, etc.
I've lived in big towns and small towns, the "nicer" areas of both. Comfortable with both, as long as it stays in the nicer areas.. especially now with a baby. I think I do enjoy "brand new, clean, shopping areas" Like to be close to a Walmart Superscenter. Like it when they're not too crowded.
I don't mind commuting too much... My guy does though. Right now we're trying to find him a CHEAP studio or motel that he can rent weekly until we can get our finances together. Then preferably find a nice 2 bd. (or so) rent to own in a nice family oreinted neighborhood. Was just curious about WHERE I should be looking... for both the motel/studio and renting options.

Any input would be truly appreciated.

I wouldn't look for housing right in Magna. The commute might be short, but it's kind of a scary, run-down area. You might look in one of the Jordans. Commuting wouldn't be too bad from there, since they're still west of the freeway.

I lived in Magna for 5 years. I enjoyed the small-town feel. There isn't much shopping to speak of other than a grocery store and a few shops. If you decide to move to Magna, for the most part, stay west of 8400 West and you will be fine. I lived in a condo across from the Smith's and found the area to be very safe - actually safer than where I now live (West Jordan).

You may like West Valley better - it's right next to Magna, and shopping is convenient on 5600 West. For the most part, the further west in the City the better.

Do you have any idea what you will be able to afford in rent? We can probably give you more specific suggestions.

Do you mean EAST of 8400 West. Old Magna is west of there. That is the run down area. The areas between 7200 West and 8400 West are newer. Magna is neither a great place or as bad as some people say. West Valley west of 5600 West is ok.

There are some decent looking apartments by the Smiths in Magna. Probably less than 10 years old. They are building a mid-rise condo complex there too. There is a sign that says starting at 139k. I drive through there on my way to work.

By the way, if it happens to be ATK that he is working at, anywhere in WVC or Magna where I mentioned will be an easy drive. Also, anywhere in West Jordan West of Jordan Landing will be easy -- 10-15 minutes max.

Yes, I meant EAST of 8400 West. My mistake. I believe the prior post was referring to the Elk Run apartments at approximately 3600 South and 8400 West. I don't know anyone that has lived there, but they look nice.

Default Don't even think about it

All due respect I know of more people (including young) that have had cancer from drinking the water in Magna (loaded with toxins from Kennecott over the years). Higher crime than all but West Valley City. Stay away from there altogether. Try to find a place in the Western are of West Jordan near Hwy 111 Bacchus Hwy if possible. Easy fast commute and a LOT more pleasant and safe.

As people have said, West Valley west of 5600 West and around 3500 South is not that bad. Check out Street View on Google Maps, you can see how the neighborhoods look (they've done almost every street). The area around 6400 West and 3800 South looks nice as well. But these areas are all technically West Valley City. Stay out of Magna.
