Hi, We live in N. Davis county and want to move more south (like Kaysville, Farmington)...but we have recently found out from some friends that they are moving out of state because their kids are so depressed from having no friends since they aren't LDS. So, now we're super worried about our kids' future and them not having friends, especially when they get to high school. And we're worried about moving to more conservative areas like Kaysville will make it worse for our family. Does anyone have any experience living in Farmington or Kaysville and are non-LDS? Or, any other areas recommended. We don't really want to move too close to SLC because of pollution. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Hmm. As long as no one "flaunts" the fact they aren't Mormon in school and acts natural, I think they'd be good. I'm not sure why there would be a difference between Northern and Southern Davis, but I've never lived there. Beats me.

How long have you lived there? What do you think about your LDS neighbors now??
We moved to Utah in 2001, came right to Davis. First in NSL, now in the area you're looking at, where we bought a house almost 5 years ago. We are "non". My neighborhood is THE MOST fantastic neighborhood!! We are one of 2 "non" families. We are totally included (but then, we want to be). Yes I am invited to all sorts of relief society stuff, and often I go. We drink beer occassionally in our front yard. Use bad language such as the D word and OMG. I have had to work reeeeeallly hard to watch my mouth beyond that! I love it here. I think the people are wonderful. |

We moved to Utah from Cali in 2005. We left California because we have 2 teenage daughters that we felt would need a Mother at home full time to steer them away from negative peer pressure. We could afford for me to stay home in Utah. My Husband's Father lived and raised a non-LDS daughter in Utah County and convinced us to move here. What a mistake! We spent the first year so depressed. My daughters didn't fit in. They are Hispanic, Non-religious, and were brought up to think for themselves, unheard of in our community. They were constantly criticized for saying "Oh my God" or "Damn" words that were meant to express an emotion. The peer pressure here was the complete opposite from California. Here they are considered not worthy enough. We are all on antidepressants now, I have to say they have helped tremendlessly! Although my girls have managed to make some friends I can't say I am confident that they will ever find a "Good" Non-Mormon Man to marry. We've had our house on the market for the past year to no avail. The realestate market took a u-turn right when we made our decision to return to Cali. At least in Cali no one gives a D*** what religion you are. Oh, by the way, my Husband's Sister converted to Mormonism, guess that was the only way she would ever marry well around here.

I'm sorry to hear you guys had such a bad experience! If people here swear like that and, as they say, say the Lord's name in vain, they will shy away from you. Replace "God" with "Gosh" and "Damn" with "Darn" and you would have been at least a bit more accepted. Also, you moved to Utah County, which is less accepting then Davis County (where the thread starter is seeking info about) and definitely less accepting than Salt Lake County.

You are right Lmejh, I guess I was just trying to steer any non mormon away from Utah County. However, I don't agree that we need to change any aspects of who we are to be accepted. We are decent, generous, and loving people! In any other part of the country saying "Damn" or "Oh my God" would never be offensive. Just turn on the television and watch any sitcom, talk show, or documentary. It's the norm...everywhere but here.
