Default Is the entire West Valley not a good place to live?

I heard many people say that the crime rate is higher at West Valley, but also heard that parts of it is a nice place to live..how about zip code, 84119?

No its not really bad everywhere. But I looked up that zip code on a map. I would not live in that zip code. That’s near the bad areas of WVC near Redwood Road and the Valley Fair Mall. The areas of WVC near the fitness center and west of 5600 West are pretty decent. There are some really nice houses near the USAANA amphitheater and the golfcourse near there. Also some really nice houses are being built in the Oquirrh foothills off of Bacchus highway. And in the In general if you live in those areas mentioned, you can expect newer houses for less money than elsewhere. And since diversity is the big buzzword on this site, you will find more diversity than the southern part of the valley.

But you can also expect the public schools in WVC to not be as good as in other areas – say the Jordans or Draper or East Bench of Salt Lake. Plus there is the WVC stigma.

The West Valley, or West Valley City? Like coolcats said, WVC has some pretty decent parts, but for the most part it is not the best place to live. If you go further down south, (South Jordan and beyond) though, the towns become safer. If you have not already heard, South Jordan has a HUGE housing development going on right now, called Daybreak, that when completed, is suppose to add an estimated 40,000+ more people to the city. There is also a brand new shopping center next to Daybreak with anything you could possibly want, including a movie theater. Down in Heriman, (the furthest south part of the valley) they are planning a 1 billion dollar lifestyle center to be built.

1 billion with a b?! First of heard of it. Have any info on this? I'd like to check it out!

I agree - in general, the westernmost portion of West Valley City is good.

Yup! With a B! That's what I thought too, when I first read about it.

There isn't much of anything about it yet, though. But it does sound like it really is going to happen! (Deseret News Article)

Hmm, 84119 is not bad in all areas. There is a nice area from around 31st South to 47th South, and then 32nd West to past Bangerter. I know at least some of this is 84119 because I have family here, around Peachwood Park. Also, pretty much everything 56th West and west is nice.

It would take a lot to get me to move into VWC. It's kind of scarry just driving through. It is one of the least expensive areas in the county but for good reason. If you are looking at it for budget concerns then I would look at the towns just north of Salt Lake county. They are nice, newly developed, much safer, and quite a bit less expensive than similar areas in Salt Lake County. Same thing for some of the towns south of Salt Lake County.

I live in Daybreak. You get less house for the money there but for the lifestyle and all the amenities, it is well worth it. Because it is a master planned community, you are ensured that the place won't go to pot in 20-30 years like happens to many new developments.
