Little America is a great hotel and it is on a TRAX line to get you around town. They have a large property with 2-story buildings around in the back. They ceratinly have a pool but call foir closings. The city has several indoor aquatic centers and one, Steiner, is not too far off the TRAX line. I used to be taken to the Little America's Thanksgiving buffet ($30 per) by some friends of mine. Bewfore my house was remodelled, my son and his family stayed there and were happy. They have sveral restaurents if room service becomes old. You can take the TRAX to the Gateway, a large outdoor mall with a foundtin that ids like to run into (comes out of the pavement, set to music) as well as many restaurents, an IMAX, and a 16-screen movie theater. Good luck!

According to their website, the Little America has an indoor pool as well as an outdoor pool, they don't close both do they?

Normally, outdoor pools close for the season and indoor pools remain that way all year round. I have never seen an indoor pool close unless it was for repairs.

Other than the hyper-expensive Grand America, Hotel Monaco is the nicest hotel downtown. It does not have a pool, but it does let guests choose whether or not they want a fish in the room (goldfish in its own private bowl, fed by the hotel types).

If a pool is mandatory, I'd recommend the Marriott City Center on Gallivan Plaza, not to be confused with the older Marriott Downtown across from the Convention Center. There is a Gallivan Plaza Trax station, so it'd be trivial to get to the Temple, Gateway, Children's Museum, Planetarium/IMAX, Library, etc.

Personally, I don't think the Little America is on par with the new Marriott or Hotel Monaco. Many of the rooms are in two-story motel-like buildings. The rooms themselves are *very nice*, but if you are trying to impress somebody with a place that feels swanky, motel layout won't cut it (IMHO).

If you're willing to roll the dice a bit, but save a lot of money, use Priceline. SLC hotels are really cheap, even the 4-star ones, through Priceline. Check out the SLC forum on BiddingForTravel.com for hints on how to bid effectively (where you'll notice 4-stars downtown usually go in the $70-$80/night range).
