since my husband works on the east side, I would prefer to send my kids to the granite school district and prefer to live in Holladay or more closer to the east side if we can ever find a newer and affordable house there, it's closer to his work and the neighborhood/schools are good.

Well depending on where u are coming from you may find this school system is not up to times in their teaching. My son is relearning what he learned last year from another states school system.

Like I've said before, every state has its own curriculum. What may be taught in Maryland in 2nd grade may be taught in Utah in 3rd. What may be taught in Utah in 4th grade may be taught in Maryland in 6th grade. However, by the time high school is finished, everyone in every state should know the same things.

U have it reversed...what is taught in Utah in 3rd was either taught in Maryland in 1st or 2nd..what is taught in Utah in 1st was definitely taught in Kindegarten in MD ...I have never heard of a 7th grader just learning algebra ..my other son learned it in 4th...like I said..this place needs to catch up with the teaching here...way behind.and no they won't know the same things...if they are behind how will they ever catch up???? they won't..its just you won't know it..the curriculum in a state may have a different curriculum, but this state as I have seen it first hand is behind...why should my child have to retake classes he learned last year and the stupid school system sees this from his records what he has learned already...progress here NO...again it seems some Utah people are stuck in a bubble and they only know what this place teaches...expand your horizons and investigate what other states teach and possibly u will understand what I am talking about

I was in Alaska in 7th grade and the top kids were learning pre-algebra then and the average kids didn't learn it until 8th grade. Even in NJ when I was in high school didn't have algebra until 9th grade.

I know, but my best girlfriend's daughter is the same age as mine (12), she lives in NJ and she hasn't started on algebra yet either and she is in 7th grade. My daughter is only in 6th because of the cutoff dates.

But complaining to us (City-Data) isn't going to do you any good. You need to take this up with your school board.
