My kids are more advanced than what they are teaching in school right now...there are times when they are bored to tears. Their school has been more than accommodating to them however, and they have subject accelerations.

I can say that in both Illinois and Massachusetts, which both have relatively high-standards of education, start teaching pre-algebra in 6th or 7th grade, and then Algebra 1 in 8th or 9th grade. I would think the schools in Utah would be able to accomodate children by placing them in higher-level classes or having one-on-one attention. Am I wrong on that?

What I was worried about in Holladay was the fact that most of the homes were more than 10 years old and I would prefer a brand new home. I did notice the cracking streets in SunCrest in Draper! That is freaky considering how mountaneous SLC is!

Right now I am leaning toward Draper and South Jordan as communities but I would like to learn more about Cottonwood Heights, Sandy, West Jordan, and Riverton.

yes, the Holladay homes are older just per my experience, the homes at the ideal areas for me on the east side are all very old, you still can find a brand new house in Holladay, but they are more than 400K-500K or more, depending on if their town homes or single family homes.

I was considering Cottonwood Heights myself, since it's still kind of close to the east side for my son's school and husband's work. We first looked into South Jordan before moving over, I would've researched more on that area if it wasn't so far away from the east side...I would've also considered Murray area too. In Murray, it's so convenient there, sams club, Costco, Best buy you name it..., and some schools are pretty good too.

I just found out that the Utah State prison is in Draper of Interstate 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is that something to be concerned about? I saw that property values in that area are still relatively high and no one minds. Have people broken out? Who is held there/Are violent people there?

I don't think I've read about any escapes in 7 yrs. And yes, there are murderers and psychotic people there. It's for anyone whose sentence is over 1 yr, I think; up to one yr they will hold you in jail.

I have been able to do some more research on the local communities and public high schools. I dug up a thread that was discussing the division of the Jordan District, that concerned me. I am looking at homes in Sandy, South Jordan, and Draper. I read that Sandy and Draper would be in the "East District" and South Jordan in the "West District". Does anyone think that the quality of education in either district would change for better or worse?

I read some more about Alta High School and Brighton High School. I was very impressed by some of the parent and student reviews. The only concern I have was that their seemed to be this concern about materialism and affluence at the schools. I was raised in an affluent district and felt little pressure, my child has felt some pressure but has learned how to deal with it. I am not concerned about being at the bottom, but I'd like to know if this is as pervasive as some have tried to make it out to be?

In Sandy I have been looking at two homes in the gated community of Pepperwood. I was wondering if anyone had any insight on that community. I also like a home on a street called Alta Ridge. Also two of my favorites are located on S Royal Creek and have Cottonwood Heights addresses.

I have still been looking at Murray and Holladay. I could only find homes in the Cottonwood and Olympus High School districts, and I am not sure of the quality. I have heard good things about Murray High School, but not those.

Well, I have always heard that Pepperwood homes went for $1 million and up. I would think there would be materialism to spare. There has been some discussion in the paper about the district split, try www.sltrib.com and search the archives. There is a lot of fear that the west side taxes will have to go up significantly to cover the loss of eastside money.
