Default Upscale Suburbs of Salt Lake City

I am looking for an upscale area with easy access to West Valley City and Downtown Salt Lake City. I am interested in having good schools, low crime, low traffic, and a town center. I have heard a lot about Park City, and I like the fact that it has a nice town center, outdoor activities, and nice newer homes with character. I have also been looking at Denver as a possible relocation opportunity. I think Salt Lake City has more scenic beauty, but I worry about Salt Lake City not having enough amenities for me. I made the mistake of moving to a smaller metro and have regreted it, but I am close to Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland right now.

West Valley City or anything near it isn't really the upscale area you're looking for. Middle class, sure. But not upscale. Park City isn't the easy access you're looking for, nor is it a suburb of Salt Lake City; it's a half-hour to forty minutes away from Downtown and WVC. However, you should look into the neighborhoods within Salt Lake County, such as East Millcreek (where I am), Olympus Cove, Federal Heights, and the Avenues, just to name a few. Those are within the metro area and are twenty minutes away from WVC at the most

Ditto Federal Heights and the Avenues. Would give you the "nightlife" (if you can call it that) of Salt Lake, yet close enough to the freeway to make it to West Valley in 15-20 minutes. Make sure that you come & check it out - you may find Salt Lake is too small for you.

Also, Holladay and Cottonwood Heights.

There we go! I was trying to think of a couple more, but I couldn't think of them. Yes, you should check these areas out too. An added benefit with Cottonwood Heights is it's got convenient access to the 215, which goes right to West Valley. You just pop on the 215 in Cottonwood Heights and the next thing you know you're in West Valley!

SLC can't begin to compare to Chicago in terms of city life. You probably wouldn't be happy here, people move here for better family life or because they love the outdoor recreation opportunities, not for city life.

I have been to Salt Lake City and stayed in downtown for 2 nights. I was working, so I did not get to see much. I have spent most of my time in Boston and Chicago, so 30-40 minute commute sounds like a breeze to me. I have heard about Cottonwood Heights and Sandy. I would be interested to learn more about the school system because I have a child, specifically how does the high school system work in Utah?

I am not looking for city action, I just would like to know if there are some decent restaurants and movie theatres. Where I am now, there aren't even good movie theatres or restaurants. The schools are top-tier though.

There are good local places and the usual chains. Plenty of movie complexes and 1 art house downtown. Look at www.GreatSchools.net to see how your current schools are rated and then check the SLC ones for comparison.
