Because you have certain rules and regs that you must adhere to as per the homeowner's association. That keeps people from painting their homes a garish color, or keeping junk cars in their yards, ect..

Some people like it because it keeps the home values up, some don't like it because they feel it infringes on their freedoms.

To each their own. We have a homeowners association where I live, but it is fairly lax as far as some that I have heard about and our values are holding quite nicely.

95% of the time the HOA only takes care of the appearance of your outside property. Yeah u have rules to abide by, but sometimes its not even enforced. They collect the money for landscape and such. My HOA here sucks. We pay 150 dollars for them to mow a little strip of grass and some small common areas. We have no playground, no pool and the irrigation is ALWAYS broke. My question is why does this state allow landlords to CHARGE the renters for the HOA and the renters have no say when it comes to meetings. I have plenty to say about this place..the stench (Jordan River or whatever..I prefer to it as the toxic sess pool)...and before you say anything they can control it by cutting down the weeds that they consider "wetlands"..its called a new filtration system to filter it so it doesn't just sit and stagnat...also the crumbled up driveways around here.the lines hanging out of the cables and phone boxes strewed across peoples lawns, not enforcing the towing rule nor paying attention to us renters in regards to speed bumps....and yes I live in the glorious snobville of South Jordan..not the ghetto.
