What about South Ogden did you like? My husband is going up alone to check out Ogden in a couple of weeks. Can you tell me specifically what you liked about South Ogden vs. other areas of Ogden.

What specifically about South Ogden did you like? Versus other areas of Ogden? Also any input on the best elementary schools in the Ogden area would be appreciated.
Actually, any recommendations that anyone can make of best elementary schools anywhere from Ogden to Farmington would be greatly appreciated. I'd love for someone to tell me, "If you're in Kayesville, you want this elem. school. If you're in Ogden, you want to be zoned for this elem. school". That sort of advice would be great!

I was just in Ogden for a night while traveling. It has two blocks of older downtown buildings that seem full with stores and mainly lunch places, with a community park next door. There was a huge holiday display, with many huts that local businesses had decorated, and lots of lights all over the trees- charming! In summer water flows over several decorative water fall/rock features. Very cold for me - about 30, I think, but a storm was coming, and it is Dec 15th. Close to that dntn there are within 2 blocks larger modern buildings. Some look great (modern, good business money flowing), but the main N/S street parallel with the fwy I think, had many vacancies in it. Sometimes there were 5 or 7 in a row on the same block! Ouch.
We ate locally at an Italian restaurant, Piccoli? picollo? Its one of two, and was in biz 20+ years. Located on same street as Dennys and Lowes or Home Depot, about 1 mile N I think from the dntn.
Saw some large chains, and local stores. Stayed at the Sleep Inn far from dntn, and liked it for the rest. Didn't hear the trucks refueling much at a gas station nearby. Hotel had fridge and micro, nice beds. Hope that all helps.

I like the idea of being right up against the mountain (on the bench?) as you have immediate access to hiking, etc.

I just read this thread again and noticed your comment about the flatness. We didn't notice this until our first winter there and there was no place to sled except our front porch (It was a daylight basement rambler so the front steps were extra high). :-)

Ogden
I was born in Ogden and have a business at the Ogden airport, I wouldn't live in Ogen proper it is a dump. South Ogden is nice, South Weber is ok
Layton is best (I don't live there either).
any public schools are going to be crowded as you may of heard procreation is our (Utah's) favorite passtime.

Looking for a 2 bed room house with yard and basement anywhere close to Provo, in any small surrounding town. It is for My Husband and I and 1 disabled fellow. My husband will need to be by a Darden restaurant such as Olive Garden, where He would transfer from, here in Amarillo, Tx. We would need it in March. We cannot afford over 300.00-350.00 a month, plus bills. 806-220-0963 And Yes We are LDS. Wes and Lyn Ross

I personally prefer the northern side of Ogden: Farr West, Plain City, North Ogden, Harrisville, Pleasant View, Marriot-Slaterville. Although, I also like the Roy and Hooper areas as well. As for the Ogden area, if you work in Syracuse, Roy might be a better option as it is closer to Syracuse and it's easier to reach from Roy than South Ogden. For elementary schools, I like Farr West Elementary, although I might be a little biased. I've heard that they've saved money better than a lot of other schools and that, as a result, they aren't having the same cutback and financial problems that many other schools are having (I don't have any hard evidence for this, it's just what I've heard). I don't know if it this is just Farr West Elementary or all Weber School District schools.

As I think about it, here's a little advice about the Ogden area, especially considering frequent traveling to Syracuse for work. Avoid getting a place where you would have to travel through Riverdale Road to get to Syracuse. Riverdale Road is the main route to take when traveling between Ogden and Roy, Syracuse, and Clearfield. There is also a lot of commercial development along this road. The result is the messiest and most congested road in the Ogden area that I can think of...except maybe 12th street when about half of it is closed for construction...anyway, if you can avoid daily travel through Riverdale Road, you'll have a much easier time...just my opinion.

I think the only place one *might* find rent that low is for a trailer. You won't be able to find a house for that price. I think rent controlled apartments are even more expensive than that...
Sorry..
